SPENCE, Winnifred "Winnie"
1931 - 2017
Winnifred Eloise Spence (nee Snustead) passed away suddenly at Diamond House Care Home on April 28, 2017. Winnie was the eldest of four children born at Broderick, SK on October 23, 1931. She was raised on the farm near Cutbank, SK and attended Stafford School. The family lived in St. Catharines, ON during World War II, while her father worked in a munitions factory. She finished her schooling in Hawarden, SK where the family settled after the war. Here she met her future husband, Pres. Winnie and Pres were married on August 2, 1950. They enjoyed 66 years of marriage. Winnie spent her entire married life as a wife and mother. She was a faithful member of Zion Lutheran Church until physical limitations stopped her from attending. Winnie was predeceased by her parents; husband, Pres on June 28, 2016; brother, Merle Snustead, on March 31, 2016; sister, Marjorie Bethel on November 28, 2016; brothers-in-law, Arvid Spence, Tom Bethel, and John Heese; and sister-in-law, Gail Spence. Winnie is survived by four sons, Wayne (Linda), Doug (Ann Marie), Perry (Trissa) and Rob (Lynn); seven grandchildren, Kirsten (Dustin) Fornwald, Katrina (Adrian) Joly, Courtney (Kyle) Hoffman, Kris (Jeanie) Spence, Ryan (Anique) Spence, Danya (Murray) Palmer and Karissa Spence; seven great- grandchildren; sister Lois Heese, brother-in- law Orville (Betty) Spence and several nieces and nephews. The Memorial Service will be held on Friday, May 5 at 1:00 p.m. from Zion Lutheran Church (323 4th Ave S, Saskatoon). Limited street parking available. Interment to follow at Hillcrest Cemetery. Donations in memory of Winnie may be made to Zion Lutheran Church or the Alzheimer Society (1405 Faulkner Cres, Saskatoon, SK S7L 3R5). Arrangements entrusted to Lisa Bos, Hillcrest Funeral Home.
