Susan WAKEFIELD Obituary

WAKEFIELD, Susan Mary. Born November 25, 1942. Passed away on November 12, 2022. Died peacefully at Charles Upham Retirement Village Special Care Unit on November 12 2022. Adored wife of the late Jim Wakefield. Much loved mother, stepmother, mother-in-law, daughter, sister, aunt, cousin, grandmother and great-grandmother across two families. Respected business partner and colleague under her former name, Dr Susan Lojkine. At her request, a private cremation has been held. A celebration of her life will take place in February next year, date and location to be advised. Susan had a lifelong love of books, words and language, and the families would welcome donations to Literacy Christchurch or Duffy Books in Homes in lieu of flowers. Messages may be sent to either Frances Lojkine, P O Box 937, Christchurch 8140 or the Wakefield family, P O Box 945, Christchurch 8140.

To Susan and Jim, thank you for the wonderful memories of the major house renovations in Remuera we worked on together; all those years ago. The library was my favourite room there; though your new house in the Port Hills, which I saw when I visited, was truly remarkable. You were very special clients, I remember you both with great fondness. I regret losing touch after the earthquakes. Rest in peace. With great affection, Claire Chambers

Jim and Susan Wakefield both hold a special place in our school as our Duffy sponsors. A conversation I held with them one day made me really appreciate what humble and special people they were. Go well as a family with so many special memories to keep in your hearts.
