I was a student of Sue's many years ago, and to be fair I was probably a brat at the time. However, I still remember Sue's passion, and her telling me (as an 18 year old) that you are never too old to be read a quality picture book. This stuck with me, and has stood the test of time, with my own children, and all those I have taught. Thank you Sue, for all your simple words contributed to my life, my children's and those have taught, a huge legacy. My own collection of picture books is now extensive after 20 years of collecting, and I have much of that love to thank you for. Rest well, your legacy is immeasurable.

I was a student of Sue's through the University of Waikato 15 or so years ago and well remember her passion and dedication to her work with children who have reading difficulties, a passion that was contagious! I feel privileged to have been taught by her, even briefly, and feel so sad to hear of her passing.

Dear Wynne and family,
Belated condolences to you all on Sue's recent passing.
Your beloved wife, mother, mother-in-law and grandmother was a wonderfully warm, generous and capable woman who will be sorely missed by you and by so many friends, colleagues and others in the community.
As you walk through the valley of shadows may you be upheld and sustained by so many wonderful memories, the love and support of family and friends, and by your faith, hope and love.
With very best wishes,
Lindsay Cumberpatch

Wynne and family - just a short note to acknowledge Susan's passing. I know there will be a big whole in your lives. Fill it with memories and special times, and rather than learning to live with the loss, learn to live with the legacy of love she left for you. Wynne, I know if Geoff was here he would to give you a man-hug.
Kind regards
Raewyn Kirkman (Tizard)

I met Sue at Waikato University because she led my literacy papers for the primary school teaching degree. When I was near failing out of university, Sue became my final chance literacy lecturer in November 2022. She taught me for a week and I got to know her style more. I knew her as a lecturer and she helped pass my final chance and now I am about to head to graduation in April 2023.
My condolences go to her family as well as my sympathies. She will be missed and I know her students would thank her for everything she did to help them become better literacy teachers.
Thanks Sue - we will miss you.

I met Sue at the University of Puget Sound in Tacoma Washington. We both pledged Kappa Alpha Theta Sorority and became instant friends. I have such wonderful memories of our time together- fun filled weekends in college, studying abroad in London, being her maid of honor when she married Wynne, the love of her life. We kept in touch throughout the years, and I know how proud she was of her children and grandchildren and the special bond she had with her mom. My deepest sympathies to her entire family! Sue will be be missed by all who were lucky enough to know her.
Much Love,

We are heartbroken by Susan's passing and it is wonderful to read these wonderful memorials from the U.S. and New Zealand. Sue was intelligent, fun, beautiful and dedicated to her family. Whether it was growing up with her in Parkrose or hiking with her in New Zealand, it was a joy to be with her and the rest of the Dymock family, and of course Aunt Bette. Our thoughts and prayers are with you now and forever. We love you all.

Sue and I shared many adventures from birth through college. Though we lived on opposite sides of town our parents families loved getting together at the Oregon coast and the Cascade Mountains. From a young age, Sue was always the smart one. Academic, adventurous, athletic, funny..she touched so many lives with her kind heart and warm smile. She loved her family deeply. I am so deeply saddened to learn of her sudden passing. May God comfort her dear mother, Bette, Wynne, her children and her siblings.

I met Sue early on in my career as a librarian at the Education Library at University of Waikato. She had such infectiously delightful personality. So passionately interested in everything. Thank you for all you've done as an educator Sue. You are already sorely missed.

The hundreds of children I have taught have benefited from the passion and knowledge Sue shared when she was my Lecturer. I was fortunate to have her inspire me to really understand how to be effective and to be able to support so many learners over the last 20 years. An amazing contributor to education, she will be missed and remembered fondly. Condolences to the Dymock whanau.

Sue, was one of my closest friends in High school. We were always laughing in her families home in parkrose . This picture of Sue is etched in my mind, always a happy girl.. She was the kind of friend who was always in my thoughts even after moving to Hamilton NZ. Before the time of internet we would write letters back and forth to keep in touch . She spoke with so much love of her children James, Elizabeth and David. I also had three children, a daughter and 2 boys and we would laugh at the coincidence of our children.
Sue , Betty and Cliff helped me so much during my grief of losing my parents in High school.. Kind ,generous and extremely thoughtful people.. Sue will continue to live on in my heart ...I am so sorry for your loss

Sue was my MEd supervisor and an inspiring educator who changed the course of my career. She had such an impact on the lives of students with dyslexia, and on those who teach them. I am privileged to have known her, and my thoughts are with her family and friends.

My sincere condolences to your family.. it is the memories in our hearts that keep her alive and her presence near. She will forever be etched in your heart as time moves on!
I was fortunate as an adult student to have done a couple of Sue's papers and she was also my supervisor with my Masters of Education. Sue you are to admired for your compassion, your enthusiasm and hard work with not only University teaching, but for your work with all the books that you have written and co written, your learning centre you established for children with learning disabilities..the list is endless of everything you were involved in!
Your sense of humor and stories you shared about your family showed me how important family is to you!.. I know you will be sorely missed and I will forever be greatful for everything you did for me, what you taught me, and what you shared with me! You are one special, unique lady who always had time for everyone else! Fly high Sue!
