Extremely sad to hear of the sudden passing of Stu.

What an honour to have spent time in your company. To hear your stories and how much family and friends meant to you. Rugby aside you lived an extraordinary life where you touched so many lives. Reading the tributes have reinforced what an exceptional person you were. Sending huge love and condolences to family and friends. Missed by so many around the world but certainly never forgotten.

To the legend and, as we knew him, the Good Ship SS, it is so sad that your good ship has sailed its journey. However, I will always treasure the year we worked together and never forget the stories. You were irreplaceable and will be forever missed.
Rest in peace, my friend

Desperately sad news, Stu was so good to me as an 18 year old Pommie kid just arrived in NZ to play some rugby. An utter joy to play with and a sincere friend off the pitch.

As a big fan of Stu when he played i wrote to him back in 1982 as a 13 year old and told him how much i enjoyed watching him play and that i played soccer for a RNZAF side not expecting to get a letter back. I was surprised to receive a letter back from Stu's father in law telling me that he was playing Rugby in Italy and would write to me when he was back in NZ. Stu did infact write to me and told me that Brazil was his favourite soccer team and he loved the way that they played attacking soccer as he enjoyed playing attacking rugby. I was able to meet Stu in person when he owned the Sandbar in Takapuna and thank him for the letter that he sent me back in 1982. His letter is very treasured. Stu, you are a special man RIP

Stu Wilson

My connection with Stu started with the WCOB rugby club in Wellington.

I remembered Stu being a very athletic and skilled rugby player who loved " giving things a go" and he made the game fun.

He was a great team man with a contagious enthusiasm who would always encourage his team mates to back their skills and believe in themselves.

Stu played a season in Italy and his friendly manner, patience, and willingness to share knowledge left a lasting impression. I was most fortunate and are forever grateful that Stu used his contacts and secured the unique opportunity for me to follow in his footsteps at the same club a year later

What I will fondly remember the most about Stu was that he always had time for people.

So sad that he has left us so soon.

I had the pleasure of first meeting Stu as a boy fresh out high school at Borthwicks head office in Wellington. It was apparent from day 1 that he had a great personality, always being able to tell a yarn or get us all laughing. His sporting ability soon became apparent as he became the star of the WCOB senior rugby team. He was a good friend with each of us attending each others weddings. I always will remember him waving to me from the field when I was watching a club game from the sideline. That was Stu.
RIP old friend

Flatted with Stu and others in a big house in Thorndon in 1974 - Grant Road, I think it was. Charming, witty, always smiling. Like everyone he shared house duties including cooking a roast for everyone once a week, and was a great flatmate. He talked about playing centre at WCOB club rugby team, and how he could break the line. I was surprised when I hear he'd become a star wing, but perhaps the line-breaking centre always remained a part of his game. And what a winger he became! Fast, elusive, creative, and so decisive. I bumped into a now-famous Stu years later and he was as friendly and warm as ever, and all reports I have heard and read suggest he never lost the qualities as a person he had as a young man. He really has left the field much too early, and I am so sad for him, his wife, daughters and the whole family, as well as his friends. Thanks, Stu!

I only had the pleasure of playing against Stu Wilson-these were invitational games -every time I was at fullback and "Stu" on the right wing .I never thought he was going to do anything exceptional on the field and then it happens, a side step,a swerve,a kick ahead and then you are left wondering-how did that happen ?that was his gift and in understanding his humour ,he had another gift and I am still captured by his humour and wit today as I think of him, lots of nice thoughts of course and to his family ,what a champion of a man, god bless you all

We met more than 40 years ago and for one year we played together in Italy. I have vivid memories of him as a man, as a rugby player, as a friend, who mentored me that deeply. May he rip. Sincere condolences to Stu's family.

To Stu'ey and family, our sincere condolences for your loss. So sad hearing the news.

I was lucky enough to work with Stu (and share in his antics :)) and the memories will be ever lasting. In life, I suppose you meet real characters but there was none more special than this talented guy. His vere for life, care for people and positivity was infectious - he was a one of a kind human.

I have spent the last few days remembering all the great and funny times together back in the old days - sadly never got to say goodbye. MIss ya mate RIP, and as I have said to you in the past - Love Ya like a sister. Mike & Ann

There are many of Stu's colleagues from his days in the 70s working at the meat company, Borthwicks, who will be saddened by this news. Stu's humour, his obvious consideration of others and his natural abilities always made working with him fun. I recall with fondness a Head Office Rugby Team's trip to Waitara to play the "Work's Team'. Without Stu we would have been flattened, but the after match events with our Waitara colleagues were certainly fun, mostly as a result of Stu's humour and approachability. Even then in his early days as a world-class sports star, Stu stood out as someone who had a natural ability and warmth to connect with people from all walks of life. Our condolences to Stu's family. So many great memories. RIP Stu. Alan and Fran Brookbanks

Such sad news, may he rip. He honoured us (Munster '78 team) as guest speaker in Nov. 2005. Great memories of our Crosshaven rfc reunion. A big part of all our story and a very talented rugby player of his time.
