Absolutely distraught. Its been a lonely winter without him. I often find myself crying from his loss. Such a good Christian conservative libertarian man, the world is worse off without him. Long live his memory, and his lovely kids, and his lovely grandkids.

So sorry to hear of your loss.

May the love of family and friends carry you through your grief.

I first met Stu at Otago University where we were both attempting to gain entrance to Medical School. I failed, but Stu was more persistent and after 3 attempts he gained entry, and began what was to be an outstanding medical career.

Stu was persistent in whatever he chose to do in life, and this, together with his innate ability and charm enabled him to achieve in many diverse fields of endeavour.

I was fortunate to flat with Stu for 3 years while in Dunedin, and while his culinary skills left a little to be desired, he was otherwise well domesticated and a great flat mate.

Stu was a very talented sportsman and could have achieved great success if that had been his desire. I played senior rugby with Stu for the Union Club (Dunedin) and the Teachers Club (Auckland) for many years where his competitive spirit and skill was always evident.

Thank you for being my friend Stu.

Travel well.

My sincere condolences to friends and family.

Love,

David Allan

Very sad to learn of the passing of Stu Brown.
Stu and I shared experiences at Southland Boys HS and we were room mates and later flatmates during our "formative" years at Otago University. Despite all that we did manage to graduate with some qualification. Stu was always keen on rugby, medicine, socialising and creating friendly alliances (in no particular order). Nonetheless he was brave enough to be the best man at my wedding to Ros.
When we returned to NZ in early 70s Stu made a grand proposition to me to give up our professional lives, sail a wooden NZ yacht to Taiwan, sell at an enormous profit, buy a local metal boat and sail the world for the rest of time. I didn´t respond but it serves to show the wide outlook and adventurism of the man.
Latterly, a couple of years ago, we enjoyed a reunion with Trish and Stu in Central Otago. A few drinks, whitebait patties and plenty of views on how to correct the current medical and academic woes in NZ. Stu always had a viewpoint and experience to give a sound opinion on many matters that he was interested in.
A great enthusiast for taking on every thing that life offered and enjoying it to the utmost.
He will be missed and remembered kindly by many.
Sincere and deep condolences to Trish and the Brown family.
Cheers Stu

Mr Brown looked after our baby boy (now 10), when he had terrible tummy trouble that meant he couldn't sleep for his first year. After his operation he slept like a baby should!!! So incredibly grateful to have such a kind and skilful Surgeon to look after our boy. Sending all the family our deepest condolences and love. Janice Clarkson & family

So sad to hear this news. I remember Stuart very well from my time working for him at Anglesea Surgeons, particularly fond of the time I noticed a fishing hook in the sleeve of his sweater, tried to remove it and he quickly whipped his arm away and said "if you pull that you'll unravel the whole thing !" He was a good person to work for and of course a great doctor.
