Dear Stephen
I have only just learned of your passing. Hard to believe that you are no longer with us.
I first met Stephen at medical school. The sharpest mind I have ever met, a photographic memory, but also into having fun. I remember some lovely times, some with our friend Jeremy Anderson, who sadly died many years ago now.
Sincere condolences to your family.

The world is a lesser place without you in it, and I am a better person for having known you. You have been a kind and patient teacher and colleague and I will miss your razor sharp mind, your fervent desire for accuracy and your illuminating thoughts x

20yrs ago, Dr Streat lead the team that cared for my Father in the DCCM at Auckland Hospital. Though my father passed away, the skill, care and compassion that was shown to us my Dr Streat was something that I have never forgotten. May he rest in peace

Condolences to the Streat family. Stephen and I were in the same class at SHC, Glen Innes, in 1967. I have happy memories of that year and Stephen's efforts to teach some of us non-musicians in the class to play the Beatle's number "When I am 64" for the school music competition. RIP.

To You Stephen and All of Your Dear Ones....as You transition to Your next World on this Marvelous, Mysterious Journey.
Arohanui..Shalom.. Kushti Bok.
There are some Fellow Travellers who we always remember even though our sojourn together may not have been a lengthy one.
Fifty years ago Stephen was one of the Team in Critical Care, Auckland who with Matt Spence and Ron Trubuhovich contributed to the survival of my Son, Antony, aged 7 whose Brain had been crushed by a large articulated stock truck leaving him with serious damage and the loss of most of his sight. This week he will celebrate his 57th Birthday.
Thank You! Thank You! Thank You! Stephen..Kushti Booty..Well Done

You were a great man - the good you did for people lives on after you - you were an extraordinary doctor and person. This loss was so sudden and unexpected. I worked with you for years and you're one of the smartest people I have ever met in my life - and unbelievably funny. You made such a positive difference to so many people - literally thousands owe their lives to you. Your efforts on motorway safety design alone halved the NZ national death rate from car crashes - and the benefits continue. I saw your other side out of work as a devoted dad and caring husband. When I knew you were looking after patients I always felt they were in as good and as safe a set of hands as they could be. You will be deeply missed, mate. Best Wishes to the family from Ted

My condolences to Stephen's family and friends, in particular his beautiful daughter Rose who I knew a lifetime ago. I connected with Stephen on twitter of all places. He was a kind wise calm presence during the height of covid. He sensed my homesickness from Australia with border closures and kept checking in on me. Understood the complexities of it all. What a beautiful, kind, man. I'm so very sorry and shocked to hear that he died. A life of service. May he rest in peace. xoxo

Stephen was an extraordinary unique and gifted human being! Huge loss to this world, certainly made it a better place having him pass through , one of a kind, passionate, marvellous brain, gifted, talented, generosity of spirit, kind, empathetic compassionate , exceptional all rounder! Lived life to the full with a zest and passion . DCC at Auckland Hospital will never be the same... one of the best of the old brigade, gave his life to serve humanity.. A privilege to have known him and worked with him in the 80´s ... God´s comfort and peace to his lovely family. Peter Vann.

Stephen was a good friend. We spent a great deal of time together when he as a medical student and I was working in the psychiatry dept at Auckland med school. Lots of music, intoxicants, and talk. I learned a great deal from him. We reconnected when I moved to Tasmania. The conversation, then dormant for decades, picked up where it left off. His joy in life, enthusiasm, and generosity of spirit will be dearly missed.

That intellect, that drive and enthusiasm, that passion, but most of all that sense of fun and daring and that smile. One of life´s unique individuals that it has been a pleasure to have known.

Stephen was in the same year as me at Sacred Heart College and we were in the same class for 5 years. He was incredibly bright winning a University Scholarship when only 15 years of age. Stephen loved music and started up the college's first pop band. Always a bit different and good fun to be around.
God speed Stephen

In 2008, when Stephen was 56, he became a client at my Personal Training Studio in Glen Eden. He came to me twice a week until I retired in 2018. Over the years Stephen became a very dear friend of me and my wife Gerry. We will always remember him as a very clever man with a great sense of humour and a loving personality.
R.I.P our dear friend.
