Stephen LYON Obituary

Lyon, Stephen James (Big Steve). Beloved husband of Lovelyn. Greatest Dad of Dylan, Mila and James. Loved son of Anne and Cliff, wonderful brother / childhood nemesis of Sarah and Rebecca and funny uncle of Casey. Friend to so many. Passed away on 9th February 2026 at Sunshine Coast University Hospital surrounded in love. Your commitment to staying with us all was undeniable. We will love you forever. Thanks to the wonderful team in Ward 5D for your care of Steve. A private farewell in Australia is to take place with a celebration of his life at a later date in his favourite places New Zealand and the Cook Islands.

Condolences from the Rarotonga Sailing Club
To Lovelyn, Dylan, Mila, James, and the Lyon Family,

On behalf of the Flag Officers, the General Committee, and the entire membership of the Rarotonga Sailing Club, please accept our deepest and most heartfelt condolences on the passing of Stephen.

To us, he wasn't just our licensee; he was "Big Steve"-a cornerstone of the RSC restaurant and bar, and a man whose presence was as large as his heart. His commitment to the club went far beyond the requirements of his license. Steve was instrumental in making the RSC a welcoming home for sailors and locals alike. Whether he was navigating the complexities of the business or simply sharing a laugh across the bar, his impact on our club´s culture was profound.

We know how much he loved the Cook Islands, and the club won't feel quite the same without his energy. We are profoundly grateful for the years he dedicated to supporting our community.

Please know that the RSC family stands with you in your mourning. We are keeping you, Dylan, Mila, and James in our thoughts during this incredibly difficult time. We look forward to honoring his memory and celebrating his remarkable life when you return to his favorite shores in Rarotonga.

With deepest sympathy and respect,

Rarotonga Sailing Club
