I met Stephen when I was President of Croquet NZ (CNZ) and he was attending a competition with Edmund. He shared his ideas about croquet and I encouraged him to become a member of the CNZ Board, which he did. Stephen served a number of years and always put the welfare of the players and the sport first. His influence made a difference with our decisions. He leaves a legacy with croquet with the work he did.
We continued to be friends over the years and kept in touch with periodic phone calls. I respected Stephen greatly and appreciated the love that he had for his family. They were very important to him.
Those who knew him will never forget him. My heartfelt condolences are given to his family. It is a loss for all of us who knew him.

Stephen, you have been such a formative presence in my life! Words can't express the joy when I saw your face again after at least 5 decades, it was etched on my inner eye. Thank you so much for your wonderful support with endless phone calls after I'd had my hip replacement! It's so hard not to be seeing you again...my heart goes out to all your beloved family they will miss you so much. Aroha is alive.
