I met Harold, like so many others did, through his acoustic lectures at the Auckland Uni School of Architecture. I was lucky to then complete a design paper under him, incorporating his love of Bach, architecture, mathematics and the church. What a wonderful experience. We continued to bump into each other over the years, most recently at the premier of "Maurice and I" in which Harold and "his" Christchurch Town Hall featured prominently. Harold was incredibly giving, kind and genuinely interested in the lives of others. His professional achievements were inspirational, as was his passion for music and devotion to family and community. Such a full life. I feel lucky to have known him. Rest in peace, Harold.

So greatful to have met Sir Harold. I had only known him for a short time while looking after him and Springleigh, but our many conversations were always interesting. His sharp mind, amazing ability to quote Latin poetry, description of people & places , complex design of music halls, history of the house and his family , books he self published etc- amazing life lived. I wish you well on your journey Harold. - your friend, Lisa .

So many memories of Harold! At Mt Albert Methodist, on stage with the cast of Pinafore, in Tuatapere with hydrangea, it goes on - always with Shirley!!
What a remarkable couple - and then there was Harold's professional expertise. If only there were more with his humanity and skills.

I was lucky enough to befriend Harold in quite the unusual way - when he needed some urgent help late at night and I happened to be across the road. He called me his Good Samaritan! We´ve emailed for the past few years and talked often (as I live in Australia now)
I saw him about 3 weeks ago in his home. We discussed quantum physics, philosophy, family, history, botany and more! He taught me about gestalt psychology which emphasises the theory that everything is greater than the sum if it´s parts which is so beautiful. He truly is a wonderful human being and will always be one of the best people I have ever met!
To his children, he spoke so highly of you all and always updated me about what you were all doing. He was so proud of each of you!
Rest easy Harold you are so loved
