Shirley HENEY Obituary

HENEY, Shirley (nee Davis). Heney, Shirley (nee Davis), born November 18th 1926 (Akaroa), sadly passed away peacefully on June 1st 2024. Devoted wife of the late Brian Heney, loving sister to June and her eleven other brothers and sisters previously passed. Much loved mother of Mike, John, Steve, Chris and Paula. Treasured mother in law of Karen, Sue and Ross. Adored grandmother to Matthew (deceased), Tristen, Staci, Chloe and Sean, and great grandmother to Eli and Aiden. Forever in our hearts. A funeral service will take place at St Mary by the Sea, 168 Deep Creek Road, Torbay on June 12th at 12 midday.

Shirley and I have had a lovely gentle friendship since I moved in next door to her at 17 Adelphi Place 20 years ago. Sometimes we shopped, sometimes we treated ourselves in a café but mostly we drank tea or coffee in her lounge, or mine, and always with bran or chocky biscuits. Shirley was always so interested in my family´s activities, especially my grandchildren. Her memory was phenomenal and I was constantly amazed at how she remembered things I had forgotten I´d said. As her sight failed she would often save things for me to read to her or maybe a button to sew back on and it was a privilege to be able to help her in small ways.
I treasure our friendship and will miss her very much. Rest in peace Shirley.
