Sharon Thomas Obituary

Sharon Marie Thomas peacefully took her last breath in this life ushering in her first breath in Heaven on Sunday, May 1, 2011. With her family surrounding her, she went home to be with the Lord after a lengthy illness. She was born on March 28, 1947, the first of Audrey and James Bazemore’s three daughters. She was a precious gem to all of her family from the very beginning.

Sharon spent all of her life in the Washington DC area. She graduated from Spingarn High School in 1965. Immediately after her graduation from high school, Sharon began to pursue opportunities to serve others. She worked at both Providence and National Orthopedic Hospitals as a nursing assistant and later at Turner Elementary School as an instructional assistant. It didn’t take Sharon long to discover that God had gifted her with a natural ability to nurture and develop children. This led her to extend her educational training at Trinity University and Prince George’s Community College with a focus on Early Childhood education and Daycare Management. She started Thomas Daycare which provided amazing experiences for children of all ages. Many lives have been enriched by the special hand of “Miss Thomas” as she was affectionately called even by her own family. They will all remember how her open heart welcomed so many from the children to the parents. One of the most unique of those relationships was with her precious Kai who won her heart from infancy and made her family his.

Sharon met and married the love of her life, Larry while employed at Providence Hospital. That 44 year love affair brought her great joy and was blessed with three children: Darryl, Deneane, and Dontae. She devoted her life to providing care for her husband and children and treasured her time with them. Her precious pets, Trixie, Cisco, Chloe and Miss Tilly occupied a huge place in her heart as well. She really enjoyed her special bond with them. Sharon valued family and looked forward to every opportunity to celebrate with them. Given her gracious hospitality, those events were often hosted in her home.

Sharon loved the Lord and demonstrated that love in her relationships with others. She was a loving, accepting and forgiving person frequently showing the most selfless acts of kindness imaginable. She was often compelled to reach out in a tangible way to those who were hurting. Taking an active role in church was an integral part of her life from early childhood never having to be persuaded to go. Her church memberships included East Friendship Baptist, Our Lady Queen of Peace, Our Lady of Perpetual Help and Evangel Cathedral. She joined Evangel on July 12, 1981 where she joyfully served in the Deacon Ministry until she became ill.

Sharon’s rich legacy will remain alive and vibrant in the hearts and minds of so many, for she was blessed to have been the wife of Larry Thomas; the mother of the late Darryl Thomas (Rhayda), Deneane Gaynor (Marvyn); and Dontae Thomas; the daughter of James (deceased) and Audrey Bazemore; the sister of Sheila Heatley and Camille Woody; the grandmother of Martel, Kaiya, Kamrin, Curtis, Nina, Joseph, Maxwell, Madison, Arianna, Aniayah and Alaysia; the sister-in-law of Wayne Woody, Geraldine Thomas, James Thomas (Gladys), Maxine Knuckles(Andre), Alvin Thomas (Wanda), Alma Thomas, Warren Thomas, Keith Thomas and; the niece of Ray and Marva Rogers; aunt, cousin and friend of many; and godmother of Nachelle Adams, William Simpson, Jr. and the late James Noble, Jr.

Family and friends will unite on Monday, May 9, from 9 a.m. until time of service, 11a.m at Evangel Cathedral, 13901 Central Avenue, Upper Marlboro, MD. Interment will follow immediately after the service at Resurrection Cemetery, Clinton, MD.

I will miss her so much!!! Mrs. Thomas was so good to so many. I listened to her and learned a lot about life. When I was first introduced to her, I knew that she would be my friend for life and she was more like family to me. I have so many great memories and I know she loved me. God bless her family in their time of need. I know she would say, "Dont be sad, I am having fun in heaven with my Darryl"....

I too share with you in the loss of our dear Sharon. I have truly been blessed to have known her for over 40 years, as she watched me and my siblings, and kept my own daughter at age 2 thru 3. I am forever thankful that God allowed me to visit her once during the latter part of her illness. She encouraged my heart as she told me, "Valerie I don't want anyone to worry because if God is ready for me than I'm ready." She was truly a virtous women.......and loved by many. Well done thy good and faithful servant!

Larry and Family

Our thoughts and prayers are with you. We know that when one dies in Christ, to be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord. Sharon now has a glorified body, one in which there is no more pain or sorrow. We can rejoice because we will see Sharon again, if we are children of The Most High God.
