Selvan REDDY Obituary

I am deeply saddened to have just learned of the death of Selvan. He was a true gentleman, scholar, and family man. I knew him from my early days at UoA biology classes and later working with him to teach undergrad classes as a lab demonstrator. I really enjoyed our chats about his life in SA and his history. We shared our views on university life and I considered him a man of honor in a system where that has mostly gone out of fashion. I was hoping to catch up with him as I would be in the area for the first time in a long time and now this cannot be. I feel very fortunate to have known a good man who treated me with respect and made my time at university a happier one, he was a great teacher and mentor, gone far too early. We had a good chat about cars and I remember him buying a Mitsubishi Pajero I hope it gave him the enjoyment he hoped for with the family. My sincerest condolences to his family and friends, albeit 7 years too late.

I was devastated to learn about Selvan's passing. I worked with Selvan at the MRC in Durban South Africa in 1998 and 1999. During this time we became very close more like colleagues, instead of him being my supervisor. My heartfeld condolances to his family.
