I don't know what too say about such a loss. Sean was my supervisor for 7 years. It's easy say he saved my life as he literally did on more than one occasion. Me batteling bipolar disorder he always said pop me a text if your really need too, even in his own private time he often supported me at low times. I will miss him and beyond devastated. I had my first child last year and he even met her, he became more like my nz father and also supported my partner who works in the same industry. We're both broken by the news. Fly high Sean, rest in peace to a beautiful soul.

Sean is remembered fondly as someone whose smile and gentle presence filled the room. He was a proud and devoted Dad to Dan, Angela, Patrick, Francesca and Emilia, and loving Grandad to Ashley, Scarlett, Maya, and Ruby. Sean's face would light up with whenever he spoke about his family; his love for them, and pride in them, was unmistakable.

Every encounter with Sean was a kind and welcoming experience, he was especially good at making everyone feel at home wherever he was. He had a gift for making people feel at ease, always ready with a kind word or an engaging conversation. His genuine interest in others and his ability to connect made him a joy to be around, someone you always looked forward to spending time with.

What stood out most to us about Sean was the deep love he had for his family, each child and grandchild. He treasured every moment with them. Sean's love for his family was reciprocated in full measure; without exception, he was adored by all who knew him.

He will be deeply missed by all, and we especially think of all the people who loved him dearly and will feel his loss so keenly, Catherine, Tori, and Gareth. It took not a moment for Sean to warmly welcome you into his world, and for that we are so grateful, the legacy and memories of his kindness and the love he shared will forever remain in our hearts.

Sean, I appreciate the many good things you accomplished and already miss you. We didn't have much contact in recent years but I always knew you were there and were someone who cared - and cared for me. So pleased you came out to visit at my rural Candide-type retreat/sanctuary a couple of months back and that we kept in contact since. Enjoyed supervising your PhD many years ago and working alongside you, Ralph and others in establishing the Compulsive Gambling Society and developing nation-wide helpline and counselling services. A legacy that lives on, albeit that those in the services that evolved from them are likely oblivious to this. Such is life, and death. We all sow seeds that thrive or fail. Many good things grow from your time here and lives you touched. Go well my Friend. Go well.

Sean was my supervisor for 3 years. He was there when I needed someone the most. He was there to listen, to ignite hope and to encourage me to believe in myself. His never ending commitment to his duty of car of others was admirable and never had never gone unnoticed. He saw me cry, he heard complain, yet he always ensured that our sessions would end with laughter. I will miss you, Sean. Thank you being a person I could turn to. Thank you gracing me with your presence.

Sean you are such a generous, giving person, always working to help people, and never retiring from that quiet, but confident dignity. We had a wonderful time in New Plymouth with you and Catherine not so long ago. Your tramping lunches were so good, and keeping up with you on the downhill track was not easy! You talked to us about your family with so much love and pride. We feel very lucky to have known you. Mary & David xxx
