I remember Sam from Clyde Quay School. I was teaching there and remember Sam as a kind gentle boy who was bright with a good sense of humour. Not surprised to learn what he has done with his life - it seems right. Much love to his family at this very sad time.

Sam made us all a better human by his unconditional kindness and love. His loss feels unreal and heart breaking. It was an honour and privilege to have met Sam, someone who leaves an everlasting impression. He spoke of his 4 boys and Sophie with so much love. He loved being a Dad and took so much pride and pleasure in it. When I was in NZ for a short period of time from Australia, I could rely on Sam and he was always ready to help me if I needed anything. He is my dear kiwi brother that I am going to sorely miss, his memories will always stay with me. To his parents, children, and wife Sophie, my heart goes out to you. Sam will always be a special person in so many of our hearts and thank you for sharing Sam´s time with us.

John Mcdougall and I taught dear Sam at Clyde Quay School in 1992. What a dear sweet boy he was sharing his writing so enthusiastically with the rest of the class. We both knew then that there was something special about this gentle but highly principled boy. I write this from Sweden (where I am for a few months) but had heard earlier in the year that he was very ill. Am very devastated now though to hear of his passing. My love to all but especially to Robyn and Al who (as his parents) I had most contact with. Murray Gadd

So sorry to hear of Sam's passing. He was indeed as bright as the sun. What a privilege to briefly be part of his life 20 years ago. He will be sorely missed. Much aroha to his partner, children, siblings, parents and all that mourn.

On behalf of all the students Sam Morrison has had, we remember him as one of the purest souls we've ever had the privilege to know. His selflessness knew no bounds, as he dedicated his life to caring for others and the environment, often placing their needs above his own. To some, our teacher may have seemed exotic, with his unconventional teaching methods and unique classroom decor, filled with collections of squashed gloves, random insects, and homemade instruments fashioned from cans and string. Mr Morrosin provided an environment of creativity and curiosity. His innovative teaching methods, such as incorporating outdoor learning and environmental activities into our curriculum, left a lasting impact on us all. But perhaps what made us admire him the most was his unwavering support and understanding. I remember how I would seek comfort in his class, venting about my struggles with other teachers or peers, and he would listen with empathy and offer great advice. I remember Going into my first year of high school made me realise that I wouldn't have that one teacher to rely on and look up to but instead encounter various teachers that I wouldn't get that same connection with. His love for his family, which he spoke of with great affection every day, mirrored the love he showed to his students, a love that extended beyond the classroom walls. he was unique, genuine, and one of the best teachers I could have ever asked for. He had made a significant impact on my life, shaping not only my academic journey but also my character and perspective on the world. He held a rare ability to see the potential in each of his students and to inspire them to reach for greatness. He taught us not only academic lessons but also invaluable life lessons about kindness, empathy, and resilience. His legacy lives on in the countless lives he touched, and his memory will forever be cherished by those who had the privilege of knowing him. He will always hold a special place in our hearts.

Sam was passionate about creating opportunity for others to inhabit their creativity and access creative spaces. He advocated for this within Auckland City Mission at HomeGround, and it is through these connections that I met him, and experienced his love for his work.
He walked me through the garden he and residents had planted, hand grown together at HomeGround, and spoke of the meals that they shared from garden to table.
At this saddest of times we are sending our respects and love to Sam's whanau and community, with whole hearted gratitude that our path crossed with his.

We arrived on R. Rd in 2013 and it felt like Sam was everywhere - at the school, at every event, biking past our house most days. For me, he is synonymous with Avondale, and his departure leaves a huge gaping hole in our community. Arohanui to his whanau xxx

I have very happy memories of Sam as a co-worker at the Mission. He was usually wearing an apron and concocting either a community meal or cool activity. There was a constant stream of people wanting to say hi. He was a fantastic colleague who gave so much and more. I am so sad to hear of his passing and send my love to his whanau of whom he often spoke, always with such pride.

Our cherished memory of Sam (at 10 years) was when he arrived, with our Sam Lahood, muddy-kneed after a soccer game, at our house in Austin St where the two Sam´s greeted and cuddled Zoë who had just been born. Arohanui and farewell to a beautiful person.
