Russell FINNEMORE Obituary

Thinking of Russell tonight at the first "Sing" concert since his passing last year. Bless you Russell.

Have only just seen this on the web. My sympathies to family and friends. Russell was a flatmate and a key musical mentor in my life. Such fond memories from Kerikeri Music school, and I well remember his astronomical record collection. I'm sure he taught me more about music than I learnt at university. A role model in so many ways. So sad to hear of his passing.

I have only just learned of Russell's passing. My sympathies to family. I remember Russell as one of the wise heads when I joined the Gay Rights Coalition. He served as a role model and someone who encouraged confidence and courage when we went to battle for our rights to exist legally as an equal human being in NZ. I was lucky to have known him and learned from him.

Russell played with Leys Orchestra for many years, and was Leader in the Heritage Festival concert on Saturday 24 September 2016. His good humour, musical knowledge and unfailing helpfulness will be sorely missed.

Very fondly remembered by us both over many, many years. We recall very pleasant times with Russell, John Wadd, the late Jan, and others. He was a greatly valued friend and colleague.

I'm so saddened to hear that Russell has passed away. He was a long-term friend and fellow lover of music. We worked together in association with the APO decades ago. We kept in sporadic contact all these years. He will be sadly missed. John Middleton
