Sincere sympathy to you Penelope and Adrienne on the passing of your lovely father Roy. I´m sorry we couldn´t attend the funeral but I believe it was a wonderful celebration of his life. Your Dad and family played a huge part in our life growing up in Matapu! Heather as the constant school relief teacher and Roy as a valued partner for dad haymaking. He had a gift in fixing up any machinery and mentoring anybody requiring help in harvesting. Roy showed our mother true compassion and kindness when dad died. He regularly touched base with her to check she was ok.... including filling up her woodshed prior to the chilly winter months. Mum was so proud and grateful for the wonderful pea frames that he constructed for her..... a curse for us who had to pod buckets of peas the old fashioned way! Our thoughts and best wishes are with you now and know you will have lots of wonderful memories of both your parents. Lots of love, Joy, Noot and family

Extending my sympathy to you all as you mourn the loss of your loved one. Mr Prestige and dad (Neil Walker) served on the Matapu School committee together when the school pool was built and I remember Dad speaking so highly of him.

To Dear Penelope, Adrienne and family so sorry to hear of Roy's death. Deepest sympathy to you. Roy was a mentor to me as I grew up on Hunter Rd as neighbours and I learnt so much from him. Amazing that farmers during that time went from draught horses to tractors & all sorts of new implements. We worked together and especially with hay making where it went from horses pulling the mower to the sickle bar mower on a tractor. I remember the day when we were mowing a paddock at snake gully, there were 3 of us mowing Roy had a new beaut Fordson, Tom Goodwin had his Ferguson and I was on my fathers Farmall super A. well it was always a contest that you had to keep up and not have to let anyone through because you were too slow, now this paddock had trefoil which is a very thick plant which clogged up on the fingers and slowed us all down making the contest all the harder. Over these years we went from stacking loose hay and me learning how to build a stack etc to hay balers and other modern gear. We all worked hard and at smoko when we ate I will always remember Roy often having a delicious strawberry or two from Roy and Heather's always wonderful garden. R.I.P dear friend

I extend my sincere sympathy to Heather, Penelope, Adrienne and families for the loss of Roy. I have fond memories of our visits to your farm in Eltham and playing with a new set of toys. I also remember my time in hospital with Penelope when we had our tonsils out and we were given cornflakes to eat after the operation- Penelope encouraged me to put mine down the basin and I got caught by a rather stern nurse and I got a sound telling off. The Roy and Heather visited and gave us balloons with a squeaker on the end. We had lots of fun with those- Penelope and I also had the same pyjamas- pink with dogs and bones on.
I wish you all the best and send love and caring thoughts to you all.

Roy was the most helpful man that I knew, He was always on hand to fix machinery when doing Hay at the Morton rd farm in Katikati. To this day we still use the machinery that he bought up from Taranaki. Roy and Heather had a lovely home in Brookfield in Tauranga and there Roy had the most fabulous garden that all enjoyed the yield from this garden. Betty would always know that Roy would turn up with leek seedlings each year to plant in her garden, wrapped in newspaper we never knew how many was in there until we started planting........ Ken still talks about the grapes that he had from Roy, they were amazing.
Roy and his brother Ken were very active fishermen in the Tauranga Harbour in their little boat. Always sharing their catch with friends and family.
We are very sorry that we are not able to be there with you to celebrate Roys wonderful life.
Much Love from
Ken and Betty, Craig and Maree Morton and families.
