On behalf of Pam Collins and her family, who mixed with Ron and Dawn and their girls as if they were blood relatives for decades, I would like to note that Ron Hewitt was among the most admirable of human beings any of us ever had the privilege to know.
Ron was generous, spirited, positive, funny, warm, engaging and dedicated to his family and friends. During those years, he was an excellent counselor for us, the next generation. He had only detectable flaw; he was prone to cheat at the card table so as not to beaten up by his young rivals, his daughters and myself and my brother, Mark. And he was shameless about it when we caught him, which happened frequently, :-)! All that did was add to the delight of his friendship.
While we have been separated for many years by the needs of careers and the vagaries of fortune, Ron has left his unforgettable warming mark on us allhe is part of who we are.
I am saddened at the idea of never being able to catch up with him again on my return trips to NZ. My mother, Pam Collins, loved and admired him deeply like a brother! He was VERY VERY GOOD to her and to us growing up.
Our deepest sympathies go to his gorgeous wife, Dawn, his beautiful daughters Helen, Christine, Jocelyn and Rhonda, and to the splendid wider Hewitt family.
God bless you all and God Speed Ron.
