My sincerest condolences to your family. Roger and my father, Barry, were special friends over many years and I know Dad respected and valued him greatly. Roger, the true gentleman that he was, reached out to me when Dad passed away, and always had kind caring words for my Mum, Anita, who I know would also be deeply saddened by Roger's passing. Thoughts are with you all....

Dawn, Jane and I extend our condolences. Roger was a wonderful MP. He looked after his electorates well. He retired a while ago and I am not sure politics is what it once was in landslide McClay days. I saw him a few times in retirement and he was effervescent and enthusiastic about his family. He was a great guy and your life will be very different without him and you have wonderful memories to recall and look back with pride. Take care.

Really enjoyed chatting with Roger. The jokes about the teaspoon from Buckingham Palace and the charities with empty coffers.

Deepest sympathy and condolences to Dawn and all your family.
I really enjoyed keeping in touch with you and Roger on my occasional visits to Taupo. Todd told me you had moved to Waiuku so missed you last time i was through Taupo. Roger was very good at keeping in touch with friends and colleagues from parliamentary days and I really enjoyed his company. He made a great contribution during those years of the 'decent society' that we all aspired.

Our deepest condolences to Dawn, Todd, Tim & Stephen and family. Roger was a big presence in our lives and we will miss him every day. He was a large man, tall with a commanding presence, huge personality, huge heart, big sense of humour, lots of fun and he loved his family big time.
I admire the legacy he left both professionally and personally, always willing to help out, lend a hand and be involved. He helped countless people.
We have many memories of Poppa that we will cherish forever.

I Have fond memories of Roger especially through Jaycees. He was such a good friend to the Te Aroha Chapter that we made him an Honorary Member. His final speech as the Children's Commissioner was delivered at a Principals' Conference in Te Aroha. With his insight and foresight, sincerity and consideration for children, it would rank amongst his best ever speeches. Sincere condolences to Dawn and family. Kelly Plummer

Thinking of you Dawn, at this time of sadness. My condolences to you and your wonderful family.
We entered Parliament the same day in 1981 and remained good mates, which we rehearsed over our last chat last week.
Roger was a great colleague, loyal to a fault and always good fun.
A worthwhile life well lived.

My condolences to Dawn and the boys. I knew Roger and family from his days in Paeroa. He was a school teacher at Central School and much loved and respected by the students he taught. He was an active member of the Jaycee's and we both worked part time at the picture theater which was fun. RIP Roger

To Dawn and family
I wish to extend my heartfelt sympathy on the death of Roger.
Our friendship started in Jaycees and I have many happy memories of the times we spent together and enjoyed especially at conferences. Roger did a lot for Jaycee and I am sure like the rest of us, Jaycee did a lot for him.
It was good to see Dawn and Roger here at Otorohanga on a quick visit some years ago and I was especially delighted when I got an email setting out that Roger had been in the Cancer Lodge in Hamilton and seen what a contribution I had made and wanted to advise that it was a special place. I treasured that email.
I will not be able to attend the funeral but on Saturday in Wellington the Jaycee Senate will hold its Annual Meeting and I am sure that a special tribute will be given by those present to Roger and the good things he did for Jaycee and the community
With best regards Murray & Heather Loewenthal

Our sincere thoughts and sympathy to you, Dawn, along with your family. Its a few years since we enjoyed your company in Taupo to share many happy times and memories with you and Roger. Cancer is a beast and I do share the rigorous times you would have had supporting Roger and I am sure he appreciated all of it. Our love to you all at this time.

Condolences to Dawn and family.
During my first tumultuous term of three terms, Roger was a supporter in time of my need. A rare gesture in an environment where colleagues tend to desert anyone who comes under fire.
Roger was a good bloke at heart.
