Roger Chartier Obituary

Roger L. Chartier, 58, of Manchester, NH, died October 12, 2010, at Elliot Hospital, after a period of declining health.

Born in Manchester, NH on May 24, 1952, he was the son of Adelard and Claire (Tremblay) Chartier. He was a lifelong resident of the city.

He graduated from Manchester Memorial High School, Class of 1970.

During the Vietnam War, he served with the United States Navy.

In his early years, he was a correction officer with the Hillsborough County Correctional Department. Later, he was a truck driver, a chef with the Market Place Restaurant, as well as an auto detailer at Bear’s Auto Reconditioning Company.

He was a longtime member and past commander with the American Legion Henry J. Sweeney Post No. 2.

An avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed fishing and hunting. He also enjoyed playing pool. He was fond of his dog, Charger.

Family members include his wife of twenty-three years, Linda A. (Squires) Chartier of Manchester, NH; his son, Christopher M. Chartier of Windham, NH; his beloved granddaughter, two brothers, Raymond Chartier of Manchester, NH and Richard Chartier of Hooksett, NH; three sisters, Susan Burns of Bedford, NH, Marie LaBonte of Hooksett, NH and Lisa Boisvert of Florida; many nieces, nephews, cousins, and an uncle.

Services: Following cremation, a committal service will be held Monday at 1:30PM in the State of New Hampshire Veterans Cemetery, Boscawen, NH. Urn encryptment with military honors will follow.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to The American Legion Henry J. Sweeney Post No. 2, 251 Maple Street, Manchester, NH 03103.

My dear brother, I will miss you more than you could ever know. I know you are home now and there is no more pain and for that I am glad. But its so hard knowing I can't pick up the phone and hear your voice. But I have my memories of you and I will hold on to them until I see you again.
