You were always a wonderful dad and I'm missing you terribly. You've left me but you are at peace with mum and all your loved ones. Your presence was so overwhelming and wonderful I loved your company; so interesting listening to your stories. I miss talking to you each day. You were just part of my day. I treasure our days of getting your life story together. You did so much work over the years with your writing. You amazed me with your sharp memory. I do feel privileged that you asked me to help you with your 'book'. It took us years and I don't know how you managed on your own writing all that time.
One thing is for sure you had the most interesting and colorful life I have ever known. I'm sorry I can't finish it as was promised. You will know why. At least the first part was done. I still have notes that we worked on together and I will do what I can. Reading and working on your life stories took me to another level of admiration for you. Everything was so raw and honest.
There are so many families at the Barrier that have you to thank for introducing them to the Island life. Bringing up their families there.
I, for one feel so content and happy that you and mum got us as kids to appreciate your life. I'm so happy we had time together to reminese on all those wonderful memories. They will stay in my heart forever. You were a great dad and so much I could say about you. I love you and feel broken without you.

Hi Bob, sorry I couldn't be with you today. You being an old fisherman like myself would understand the weather has beat us again today. Thank you for introducing me to the Barrier, your family and all your good friends. I won't forget all the good times we had Bob.

WHITMORE, Bob. With his passing it brought back great memories. He and his mates John Nicholson growing up in Otahuhu. John's father had the Star hotel. What I have learnt from this is- if you have an old mate, pick up the phone to just say 'Hi', sometimes its too late. Richard Scelly Whangamata.
