Dear the van Tiel Family,
You have all been in my thoughts. My name is Rob Buckett. We were having our evening meal when, having heard a loud bang, my wife cried out asking me to come quickly as a man appeared to have had a heart attack. I ran to the vehicle and gently lifted the man from the driver's seat and laid him on the ground. I immediately applied CPR, aided by the instruction of the ambulance service via another neighbour's mobile telephone . Initially we could not find a pulse but when the man was taken away by ambulance his heart appeared to be beating strongly. Several neighbours worked well as a team in an attempt to help achieve the best possible outcome.
I was really saddened to be told a couple of days later by Mic Pender's wife that the man was Rob van Tiel and something of his background. I am so sorry we were unable to save him. Please accept our sincerest condolences at your loss. Rob was obviously a good and well loved man.

So sad to hear. I remember Robert coming up to me at my fathers funeral and reminding me of his fond memory of 'dads donut delivery to sacred heart college.' Thank you Robert for your empathy and your compassion.. I have since learnt of your great service in life ...wow! The boy from the farm in Kiaua ...the boy from the farm that teased us city folk! My first encounter with Rob was as Chair of the Sacred Heart PTA with Kelvin Mephan as his dedicated Deputy!
Rob and Kelvin created a School Fair that not only raised a handsome sum of funds to assist with school activities but much more importantly brought the SHC Community together in spirit.
For me personally and I am sure for many others Rob and Kelvin were supreme mentors in the importance of giving to and caring for your community.
Thank you then for sharing your beloved husband and father with this very very grateful community.
Rob will indeed be sadly missed by many.

As we approach our 70s I look back and realise there are very few people in this world I could say I really respected, Rob and Maureen are such people. So sad to hear of Rob's passing. Our heart goes out to you as you come to terms with it. He will always be fondly remembered as a very caring and giving person who just loved Maureen (what a dynamic duo),the family and anyone who was lucky enough to come into his orbit. Rob was a gentleman farmer, business man and above all a special loyal friend, especially to Pete. He has left a strong imprint which will live on.

A true gentleman and one of the most genuinely caring people I have had the pleasure to know.
