Robert Browne "Bob" Tennent

Robert Tennent Obituary

TENNENT, Robert Browne (Bob)
Passed away 20th April 2020, in his 70th year. Dearly loved husband of Kim Trang Bui Thi, much-loved father of Meaghan, Rob and Robert, grandfather of River, Ireland, Coco, Melluchra and Fender. Big brother of Rosemary, David, Murray and Bruce and good friend to so many. Remembered fondly as a husband, father, grandfather, brother, brother-in-law, uncle, friend and colleague.
A deeply intelligent, independent and well-respected man. He confronted his illness with strength, dignity and a scientist's resolve to face facts without letting them overwhelm him. His family gained inspiration in his last months from his dignity, grace, refusal to feel sorry for himself, his openness to receiving and offering love and his joy in time spent with family and friends. Thanks to Waikato Oncology, Thames Hospital, Cascades Hospital Care and Hospice Waikato for your care for Bob.
A private family funeral has been arranged. In lieu of flowers donations to Hospice Waikato (hospicewaikato.org.nz) appreciated. All correspondence to 33 Benner Drive, Ngatea.
To request access to live stream of funeral email [email protected] by Monday evening.

I found this page after sorting through old documents related to UN FAO work in 94 - 97 and deciding to search on those involved with me. My sincere sympathies, even if belated. I worked with Bob as a fellow consultant during that time, he was a colleague but also a friend - during that early work in China on forest monitoring I needed lots of advice, and there was Bob, all the time whenever needed. Mostly faxes at that time and early email systems. Bob was generous, fun and a great scientist. The consultancy team included Bob from NZ, myself and Jerry Leech from Australia, David Born from the USA and a host of others that came in and out of the project. I will never forget the laughs we had at trying to find good coffee (ha!), eating 'delicacies' such as carp, and awful attempts from our hosts to be served dog with Bob spitting out a little 'bark' to give me a heads up as to what was going on. Life is short, Bob made a difference in many ways and I'm proud that I knew him. Vale RB Tennent.

I shared 5 years at Kings College with Bob as my friend.I could not have asked for a better friend. He was the human version of a Fox Terrier. Slight, but full of courage and persistence. He could be kind and generous, and always trustworthy. I'm proud to have known him. Escapades like the illicit Sake still under Averill house, and its inevitable consequences, will be remembered by all our year in Averill! Salvate RB Johnno

Sincere condolences to Bob's family on his passing. He may be gone but the memories will be everlasting. I first met Bob in the early 1970's and our forestry journeys crossed in various places in NZ and abroad. Bob was a scientist with an acute mind combined with a very personable manner. He was the quintessential "kiwi bloke". It was apt that my safe haven during political unrest in Cambodia was spent with Bob, Kim and their friends in their Kiwi bar in Phnom Penh during my assignments there. May your soul rest in peace

So many fond memories come flooding back of the times spent with Bob in our early days at school in Ngatea and on into the University days. We did so much together in our formative years that Bob is simply part of my life. Words fail to express how much I appreciate that, and how deep the loss now is. My deepest sympathies to all his family and friends for their losses.
