Robert RIDDELL Obituary

RIDDELL, Robert Bruce. Professor Emeritus, University of Auckland. Died peacefully 26th May 2023. Treasured husband (Bobby) of Heather. Beloved by his girls and their families: Anna and Steve, Kate and Louis and grandchildren Phoebe, Bonny and Olly; Grace and Danny. UK. Loved stepfather of Rhys, Belinda and Lincoln. Best friend and co-conspirator of David and Andrew. Helensville, NZ. Bob was a respected academic; author; environmentalist and planner who taught and practiced all over the world. We celebrate a remarkable life of 88 years; filled with adventure, achievement and intellect; with just a touch of mischief. We are so grateful to have had this darling man in our lives. A service will be held at St Matthews Church, Helensville on Saturday 3 June at 1 pm. Everyone is very welcome to join us.

My sincere condolences to Bob´s family and professional colleagues. Bob Riddell was my PhD supervisor at the University of Cambridge from 1981 to 1983. He had a deep understanding of urbanization and urban planning in Africa. He was an excellent supervisor and also very kind - he accommodated me in his house whenever I was visiting Cambridge from Harare, Zimbabwe, to consult him as my supervisor. Rest in eternal peace Bob.
