Robert MARSHALL Obituary

MARSHALL, Robert. Dearly departed, Robert passed away suddenly on Thursday 16 November 2017, working the land he loved. Devoted son of Bob and Mary, loved brother of Ian, David and the late Lois - and avid horse racing fan. Committing his years to running the family farm in Whenuakite, Robert never ventured far from home - but those he touched will always share the memories, love and resolve of a classic kiwi farmer. Rest in peace after a life lived your way Uncle Rob - you will be remembered by your brothers, your nephew Greg, your nieces Lisa, Denise and Sheryl and all our family who follow. In accordance with your last wishes, no funeral service will be held - but the Marshall family asks those who have known Robert share a moment of remembrance for a son, brother and uncle who is no longer with us.

Robert was born only a couple of weeks after me and I have been told we attended each others birthdays in our early years. I also attended Mercury Bay District High School with him. His distinction then was winning the steeple chase, I think twice.

He was related to our family, as a first cousin on his father's side (Bob was my my mother Ivy's brother) and through the Hamilton side as his mother Mary was my father (Bernard's) first cousin.

When ever we were down Whenuakite or Whitianga we always made a point of calling on Robert. So long as there wasn't a horse race running on TV he always made us very welcome. I feel another part of our history has gone with Robert's death. We will think of the family as you sort through Robert's treasures? He was one of the good blokes.

Pamela and Tony Marsden and family.
