Robert MAGILL Obituary

Heard of Pats passing recently. We have great memories of him from his trips to Ireland and he kept in touch over the years. He first came to visit us in 1996 in Camp, Co Kerry, where his late wife's father had emigrated from. Pat was full of mischief and fun. We had the opportunity to meet many of Pats family when we visited NZ in 2001. May he rest in peace and our sympathies to all his friends and family

Have just recently learned of Pats passing,Our condolences to all the whanau.Lots of great memories of fun times with Pat and family,in New Plymouth,Napier,Kaiwaka,Te Arai.I always have a smile thinking about the time he told me I was the Most reliable woman he knew, obviously he didnt know while I was babysitting Jerri due to my inattention for a few seconds she managed to scatter baby wipes all over the place.
Also camping at Forestry[Te Arai] made sure he camped away from the rest of us,saying he snored too loud. He was a lovely man who always was welcoming to me and my sons.We went to Napier a few years ago and alas the contact phone numbers I had didnt work,and no sign of Pat at his house.He was always chirpy and full of beans.RIP Pat.

Like so many who have had the privilege of knowing you, I have many fond memories. I first got to know you around 2005 when you would regularly attend the Prison Fellowship Conferences at the Silverstream Retreat. Retreat. Enthusiastic, engaging, inquisitive and a real heart for social justice. We would meet at the Quaker's Acre in Whanganui from time to time, when we would share a time of reflection together. They were precious moments. We have all been enriched by your presence. My heart goes out to my whanaunga Helen, who was a constant and caring companion.

My condolences to the Magill family.
As a rep I loved my visits to Pat when he was in the carpet business. Pat was very loyal to Bob Mustard.
I´m grateful for knowing Pat and will always appreciate his friendship and advice.
New Zealand is a better place because of Pats dedication to those who are not so fortunate in life.

Haere ra, Pat. You will always be remembered as an enlightened and inclusive member of the Napier business community. You will also always be remembered for your mentorship to our family too. We will treasure fond memories of frosty Saturday mornings at Whitmore Park, trips to Puketitri in the big green car, the heady Shield days, YMCA dances, Napier-Hastings walks, and of course the first Taupo-Napier walk. Rest in peace, friend. Your spirit lives on within the huge community of Napier that has been touched by your warm and generous heart.

I was saddened to learn of Pat´s death. He was a person of great passion and commitment and I feel privileged to have known him.
We met some 40 plus years ago when I was working for the Department of Internal Affairs which, at that time, was involved in the youth work sector. I was also associated with the YMCA. As part of Pat´s commitment to advancing the interests of young people he developed the idea of the "Pub with no beer", being a place where young people could gather unsullied by alcohol. This initiative, within the wider concept of the Napier Pilot City, was of interest to the Department. If I recall correctly, with the passage of time, Pat was also seeking financial support for the Pub from the Department.
We kept in touch over the years, mainly through the exchange of Christmas cards and occasionally, accompanied by my wife Lynne, in person during all too infrequent visits to Napier.
Pat was a great character and his enthusiasm was palpable. He lead an illustrious life and the world is poorer, and Napier in particular, for his passing.

The last of the Dims. You brought colour, fun, spontaneity and fresh ideas to our family. Travel safely Pat and say hi to fellow Dims, Peg and Brian.

Pat was one of a kind - I have never met a person with so much passion and kindness. He needed to be cloned.

So sorry to hear of Pat's passing.
I first met Pat when I joined Pat's beloved NHSOB rugby club as a 14 year old player back in1960. He was one of the backbones of the club, and was held in high esteem.
Rest in peace Pat, you have earned it.

Pat Magill welcomed me to the Bay many years ago and remained a friend over many years.
Our hallway was carpeted as a surprise in our rented accommodation in Griffen Street where we paid £4.4 shillings weekly. Kelvin returned from an All Black trip to England 4 1/2 months. My son Christopher often went on many of Pat´s walks. We will remember him.
