It was with great sadness that I learnt of Robert´s passning. I knew him since childhood. We grew up together in Vryheid, Natal, South Africa. He was always a very caring and loyal friend and I shall miss him very much. Rest in peace Robert. Kindest thoughts and condolences to Kay and family.

I had occasionally thought of Bob, fondly, over the years but for some reason today my mind is flooded with memories of him. I worked with Bob in the Dept. Of Psychiatry and Behavioural Science at Auckland University from 1992. I remember intelligence, insight, kindness and humour. And subtle education. He taught me a lot though I did not realise it at the time. Thank you Bob.

On behalf of the Titirangi Folk Music Club, we extend our sincere condolences to Kay and the Large family on the death of our cherished Life Member and Past Tresident. Bob's subtle mentoring, wise counsel and insightful commentary on the human condition will be missed. It is the commitment and leadership of Bob and his ilk that have laid the foundation of the ongoing success of our club, we stand on their shoulders. We will miss his singing and musicianship. His memory lives on in his songs.

I had the pleasure of working with Bob for twenty years or so if my memory can be relied upon. He taught me a lot and was always there to lend a tutored ear, and to offer sage advice. I enjoyed his musicality and was much amused by his anecdotes to do with the Maritime Crew, most especially their amazing tour of Poland, singing to responsive crowds (up to 3000 souls on occasion). Bob was also an astute judge of character, strengths and vulnerabilities. Above all I knew Bob as a man of unbending principles matched in equal mwasure by his innate
empathy, compassion and a drive for public service. Rest in peace Bob after a life well lived, leaving the world better for you being authentically you. My heartfelt sympathy Kay and fanily at this profoundly sad time. Peter Waddell

The New Zealand Pain Society (NZPS) would like to express our sincere condolences at Bob's passing to his wife Kay, family and friends.
Dr Bob Large served as the second President of NZPS from 1985 to 1988. Bob had the unenviable task of shepherding the NZPS to become an incorporated society, no mean feat working through bureaucratic and legal systems. Bob was recognised with a Life Member award for the services he provided to the NZPS during his career. One of Bob's highlights he shared with the NZPS was the time he spent with distinguished overseas guests; neuroscientist Dr Pat Wall and gate control theorist Ronald Melzack, Bob delighted in having time with them at the Annual Scientific meetings.
Rest in Peace Bob and be well assured, you will be well remembered.President NZPS

This wonderful man saved my life when he was running what I believe was the last Pain Clinic course at Auckland Hospital. I'd had a severe back injury about 2.5 years prior to the course and he was amazing! All I wanted was to get back to work and he and his very valuable team achieved that for me. At that time he called me their biggest ever success story. Because of this course I have gone on to live a full life. I am extremely grateful to Bob and his amazing team.....Condolences to his family...

Bob was a valued mentor and model in my psychiatry training. He had an acute and inquiring understanding of people, pushed boundaries of therapy and challenged established theory. At the same time a humble, clever, funny inspiring man.
Love to Kay and the family. You will at least be blessed with a million good memories.

I am very saddened to hear about Bob's passing. I was a colleague with him during the 1990s when he was in Psychiatry and Behavioural Science at the University of Auckland. Bob was intelligent, engaging, funny; but he was enormously respected as an ethical, socially-concerned and empathetic colleague and teacher. I also had the pleasure of hearing his singing and his profound love for folk music of all genres and varieties. My condolences to his family and others who were lucky to be close to him.

We´ll stay free my good companions
We´ll stay free my good true friends
We will travel `cross the mountains
Sail to the oceans end
We will go wherever the wind blow
Where the seas roar we will be
Following our heart desire
To be boundless to be free
Hugs all round Jayne & Bob
