Sending love and hugs to Sue, Charlotte and the rest of Bob's family. It seems like only last month that we were laughing together at the nearby distillery over a pizza. Will miss a great neighbor and gentleman.

Dear Bob:
There is so much to say but I will keep it brief & mention what I remember most ..

Thank You .. for encouraging a shy Cambridge undergraduate to explore the joys of rock music - especially for the unofficial concerts blasting down Bateman Street.
A joy which has lasted all my life and Cream´s White room is still my favourite !

Thank you .. for the engineering wisdom.
Being a female, universities had denied me the right to study this science formally but you always answered my curious questions as an academic equal, providing simple and clear explanations about how things worked.
Geomorphology is still a favourite and I thought of you often when finally - even as a female - I was able to study industrial engineering at a post-graduate level and build a professional life and company, within that world.

Thank You .. for the dancing, the fun, the jokes, the laughter, the May Balls and punting to Granchester with John & Deb, all of us having consumed far too much champagne ! .. oh and for introducing me to Moussaka !!

Thank you for recently asking Hannah to search for and find me.
To catch-up after 50 years was such a joy, it was as though those years didn´t exist and we were picking-up where we left-off yesterday, in Cambridge.
To lose your friendship again before we´d even had a chance to cross The Ditch between Oz and N.Z. to meet in person, gives me great sadness.
So ..
"stop all the clocks" and until we meet again in some other place, I will always remember that beguiling smile.

My condolences to Sue and all the Barraclough family
God Bless .. Marilyn (The Legs !)

Jane and I have very warm memories of Bob in Cambridge. He was a very distinctive presence in our college, Trinity Hall. Very tall, very slim and very energetic. Rowing on the Cam was a speciality, particularly in the "Bumps" races. He was good at all the sports he played and he had an infectious sense of humour, which made him a pleasure to be with. After all that expending of energy he was often to be found quenching his thirst in the JCR (College Bar) downing a pint or three! Often eyeing up any female visitors and regailing them with jokes and stories always friendly and great fun.
After college, Bob was a great help at our wedding, acting as usher in church he took great care of a dear old lady friend of Jane´s parents. She had been a seamstress for the "Mitford" family, she was about 92, a diminutive, frail old lady of about 4´ 10". The difference in height was marked but he was so caring and thoughtful, making Amy smile! Only Bob could wear a top hat with such style! Later we met up with him in Newcastle while he was working there. The last time we met him before he went off to work in Africa and travel the world was a trip to Holy Island off the Northumberland coast. We had an impromptu game of football on the end of the causeway to the island with our friend Marilyn while we waited for tide to go out to allow us to cross on the causeway to walk round Lindisfarne.
One of our college friends, Geoff Foster bumped into him a couple of years later at a squash tournament in Lusaka, Zambia, where they were both working.
A good man who will be fondly remembered and sadly missed.

Gentleman, caring, intelligent, funny, thoughtful, brilliant - I have many a fond memories of Bob.
We first crossed paths during my time at Transit NZ (NZTA) and Bob was a key figure from MWH. Fast forward a few years and we became team mates on the Transmission Gully PPP project. He shared many stories about his career highlights, experiences and ventures. We laughed at our parenthood joys, especially taxiing our children to their early morning sports trainings. Work chats involved going over his construction design reviews. They would soon become the `School of Bob - Engineering 101´ sessions. I´d like to think I was his favourite non-Engineering pupil. I asked him a lot of questions, he advised while he ate all the cookies from the office cookie jar. But what stood out the most, was his passion for Sue and her Art, his grandson and his children. On my 40th birthday, Bob kindly gifted me a silk scarf and tea towel made by Sue. My keepsakes from a very special man, dear colleague and friend.
My sincerest condolences and prayers go out to Sue and family.

I had the pleasure of working on the same project with Bob Transmission Gully. Had many interesting discussions with this engineer who had huge experience and valuable lessons. Farewell a great leader.

Stantec and MWH Colleagues and Friends

September 2, 2024

Bob was a highly respected Engineer, friend, colleague, and a great person, with high intelligence and a keen wit. He was an invaluable member of the MWH (now Stantec) team for many years, and more recently a senior advisor and construction monitor for Stantec and the NZ Transport Agency on the TG and Puhoi roading projects.
We send our thoughts and heartfelt condolences to Sue and the family.
From the Stantec Team and his friends and colleagues from his MWH days.

Bob was one of the "good guys" that I ever worked with. We met on the Puhoi to Warkworth motorway project and I was immediately stuck with his huge amount of both technical and general knowledge. This being delivered in that wonderful gentlemanly manner of his, even at moments of great stress.
Being born in the same motherland city Leeds, we took up a great report immediately, trading stories of Yorkshire. This included football, which Bob kindly gave me his 1st May 1965 FA Cup final programme of Leeds Utd verses Liverpool. A momento I'll cherish.
RIP Bob, you were turely a great civil engineer, and true gentleman. I' am very say to hear of your passing.
Mark Armstrong.
