Joe ROBINSON

Our condolences to Yvonne and family. I first worked with Joe in Wellington (Bowen State Building) in the early seventies and later with him in Sydney where he had been posted as NZ Consul General and Senior Trade Commissioner. He was a man of great knowledge and intellect. I did learn a lot from him and this served me well in later years. Our paths crossed during postings but finally we did work together again, this time in Auckland. He was present at my retirement function in Auckland and he spoke extremely kindly of our experiences together both overseas and in NZ. Joe, you were a great orator and story teller. Your subtle wit and respect for all, will be greatly missed. A true gentleman. God Bless you.

I first met Joe in 1957 and have therefore known him, as a friend and as a colleague, for almost 60 years.
As a friend Joe was affable, friendly and always helpful. He carried those qualities over into his professional life where he represented New Zealand as a Trade Commissioner with considerable distinction in Hong Kong, Port of Spain, Sydney, London and Canberra.
All who met him, liked him. He was that sort of man, one you knew you could trust. He will be greatly missed.

Joe and I both lived in the same farm-house 67 years ago, Joe as the farmer's nephew doing a gap year, me as the local teacher. We had lots of fun together at dances, table tennis & harriers, and have remained great friends. My wife and I even visited him for lunch when he was Trade Consul in Sydney. Joe has never failed to keep in touch ever since. He will be sorely missed.
