GOTO, Kohei
It is with great sadness that Kohei Goto passed away on Tuesday, June 20, 2017. He had battled with severe physical limitations for several years. Kohei was a determined man with strong convictions who overcame adverse circumstances. He was born in Shinchi-Ku, Formosa (now Taiwan). He was the second oldest of four children and eldest son of Noboru (father) and Raku (mother) Goto. While in school Kohei displayed an aptitude for academics. Kohei was raised through the hardship of World War II and after the war ended, he settled in Okayama where he completed junior and senior high school. He entered Nagoya Institute of Technology on a scholarship and graduated from the architectural engineering program. Following graduation Kohei entered the work force as a construction project engineer. In 1961 he met and married Mie Goto (Akaki) and within a few years had two children. In 1967 Kohei left Japan to relocate the family to Canada and eventually Calgary. Soon after arrival, he met with a Christian Japanese group and became a Christian. He remained associated with that group throughout his life. Kohei entered the University of Calgary and became a Civil Engineer. He was employed by Stanley Associates (Stantec). Kohei is survived by his daughter Minako (Darren) Polischuk, son Shinji (Katrin) Goto, grandsons Michael and Sean (Christina) Polischuk. Relatives and friends are invited to join the family for a visitation at Mountain View Funeral Home (1605 – 100 Street SE, Calgary) on Thursday, June 29, 2017 from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. A Celebration of Life ceremony will be held at Foothills Alliance Church, (333 Edgepark Boulevard NW, Calgary) on Friday, June 30, 2017 at 3:00 p.m. To express condolences, please visit:
