I had the honour and privilege of becoming friends of the Welch family during their time in Ottawa.
Jack was the epitome of the Military Officer and a true gentleman.
He will be sadly missed but never forgotten.

I am writing on behalf of my father CAPT Tom Riddell RNZN (rtd) who knew Jack very well, having served with him in the Navy for many years.

Tom only learnt of Jack's passing yesterday and was deeply saddened to hear the news. He requested we pass on his condolences. (Tom is being cared for at Malvina Major Retirement Village.)

An Officer and a Gentleman. I will remember you as a man with a smile, a man I could never imagine being hard or mean, a fine man and a scholar. Go well Jack. Thoughts and love to you Aidy and the boys.

I was privileged to have worked with Jack for a short time. He was a fine New Zealander, who contributed much to our country over many years.

I would like to offer my sincere condolences to the family.
