Raymond Janiszewski Obituary

Raymond R. Janiszewski passed away peacefully on December 31, 2019. He will be sadly missed by his wife of fifty years, Margaret (nee McDermott), his children, Jeffrey, Andrea (nee Dutton), Mark, Katie (nee Bartlett), grandchildren, Alexandra and Charlotte, siblings, in-laws, nieces, nephews, and lifelong friends. Ray was born in Bridesburg to loving parents Lucien and Sally; he grew up with his brothers Frederick and Edward, and sisters Joan and SallyLou. His youth was spent proudly serving in the Boy Scouts of America Troup 314 and Sea Scouts on the Ranger 1. His civil service continued in the United States Army where he served in Korea during the Vietnam War and was a proud member of Boleslaw Grochowski American Legion Post 396. Ray met Margaret when he answered the door at his Wildwood summer house in July, 1968; they fell in love and were married on January 24, 1970. They started their family on Biscayne Place and raised Jeffrey and Mark in Sicklerville, NJ and Poolesville, MD. Ray's career started at the US post office and continued with his position on the Operational Analysis Staff of the United States Customs Service in Washington, D.C. until his retirement from the Homeland Security Agency in 2003. His family Disney trips and summer vacations in Wildwood and Stone Harbor were ones of legend and the stories continue to be shared among his Janiszewski and McDermott siblings, and his many nieces and nephews. In retirement, Ray and Margaret returned to their Pennsylvania roots and settled in Garnet Valley, where they enjoyed spending time with their family and friends. Ray's love of food, wine, and REAL music took him and Margaret to many places throughout the United States and Europe. Ray was the consummate storyteller, an avid crossword puzzler, and everyone's fact checker. His wit, wisdom, and general commentary on life will be truly missed by all those who loved him. Family and friends are invited to gather Monday January 6th from 6 PM to 8 PM and Tuesday January 7th 8:30 AM to 9:30 AM at the Slabinski Sucharski Funeral Home 2614 Orthodox St. Funeral Mass Tuesday 10 AM in St. John Cantius Church. Interment and Military Honors precisely at 11:30 AM in Washington Crossing National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, your donations donations to the Sisters of the Blessed Sacrament at Katharinedrexel.org or the SBS Development Office, 1663 Bristol Pike, Bensalem PA 19020 would be greatly appreciated by Ray's family. Dear Marge and family,

I was very sorry to hear about the death of Ray. Although I met him only once or twice, mainly, I knew him through Marge. Thinking of him brings a smile to my face. I remember his funny comments and observations. One such thing was his description of retired people from Florida driving North in the spring. They slowed down when going up hill on highways, just as they would when walking.

I am so sorry for all of you. I know he and his witticisms will be greatly missed.

Fondly,
Genie
