Phyllis WONG Obituary

WONG, Phyllis (Mum). Death has entered my world and left its calling card: Grief. Relentless yet varied, it washes over me like the waves on the shore ? some gentle, some tumultuous ? and in its wake, leaves a trail of crippled and broken hearts. I am at the mercy of its ebb and flow as it wafts through my soul but with each passing day, I am warmed by the glow of the kindness and love of her extended family and friends. In each of your words, gestures, meals and memories is the beauty of your friendship with Mum and from that, I draw the strength to carry on her legacy of love, compassion, joy and laughter. I look forward to celebrating her life with you all on Saturday, June 17th, at the All Saints Chapel at Purewa Cemetery (100-102 St Johns Road, Meadowbank) at noon on Saturday, 17 June 2017. Much love, Janice

Phyllis Wong

A much loved family friend whose kindness and friendship to my parents ( Alex and Myrtle Wong) and my family will never be forgotten.

Her many years of friendship, her visits to my parents, in Takapuna, then Albany were always lighthearted and fun. She was there for my mother, visiting and translating for mum's carers, sharing recipes, food and banter.

Her wonderful food, generous hospitality and infectious good humour always made us feel entertained, welcome and comforted.

Our heartfelt condolences go out to 'Uncle' Tong, Robert, Janice and Sarah and all that loved and cared for her.

Aunty Phyl was a woman whose loving heart was large enough to accomodate so many people from all parts of her life and whose love and interest in her nephew Owen, myself, Maddie and Toby was genuine and thoughtful.
We think fondly of her unforgettably comforting meals and treats; laughter around the dinner table and her inability to sit still in her busy-ness to ensure all were fed and watered; to her artistic and creative talent, such beautiful pieces of pottery and appreciation of classic design; to her infectious laughter, her regaling of hilarious tales and her endearing smile under those small observant eyes; her adoration of Mika, the depth of which only another dog owner understands; the support she gave Maddie during a Rhythmic Gymnastics comp in Aukland; the bond that she had with her dear "Sis" Yvonne...so many beautiful memories of woman whose legacy is the epitome of loving generosity.
Always remembered.

My Aunty Phyllis was always hospitable, animated and ready to share an anecdote or news over superb afternoon teas or dinners - a visit to Auckland was incomplete without a trip up the driveway then upstairs to a warm and inviting home filled not only with her stylish possessions but with her candour and generosity of spirit. Sadly these visits were few and far between due to distance but when they occurred they were memorable. Aunty was always quick off the mark and the house would be filled with hilarity over shared reminiscences. I will miss her as we all will miss her, she leaves a gap in this world which cannot be filled. She has been there my whole life and there are so many memories of happy times at Debron Ave - who else could organise 7 genuine dwarves to visit to celebrate their child's birthday? She certainly was a dream hostess and mother and I thank her for being a beloved aunt. I'm so grateful that she always had time for all her nephews and nieces and I will always treasure that. I trust that she has found everlasting peace.

My dearest Aunt who has supported her nieces and nephews through thick and thin. You were there when I got married filling in as the brides mother, your cooking is legendary, and I will miss just hanging out with you and laughing. Your were my mothers strength in so many ways. Thank you my darling aunty for being by my side always. Love you so much and will dearly miss you.

We mourn the passing of a very special Aunty who always had amazing treats on the table. I will always treasure the memories of your home when we were kids, bunking down in the lounge room, cramming into the beetle, the tennis and as always the amazing food that Aunty Phyl always managed to serve up. We will all miss you.....
