A belated entry for a wonderful musician who was important in my learning more about jazz. In 1996 I attended his weekly course 'Jazz Jury' and we managed to mark his birthday that year. [Julie had appeared before the close of that session].
I
Of course, I appreciated his skills as a pianist and treasure my CD's even more now. It was a shock to read of Phil's death last month. I am left with many memories of wonderful music.
My thoughts go to you, Julie. I will write [snail mail] in time.

Remembering Phil from days long ago in Old Blighty (before his emigration to NZ, before his impressive career and quiet fame) as the big brother of Adrian and my best friend, Julia, son to 'Uncle Doug and Auntie Biddy'.
Having visited him in Auckland in 1989, it was great to meet up with him again 'back home' just a couple of years ago. Still the same funny, genuine guy. I'll treasure, even more now, those several discarded college books of his on my bookshelves - thanks, Phil.
Huge respect for the admired jazz artist you became, but fondest memories of the days you lived 'across the road'.
Deepest sympathy to Julia, Adrian, Phil's boys, Julie & their families.
Sweet dreams, Phil. x

So sorry to hear this news belatedly. Phil was a good friend for many years. He wrote music for some of my documentaries. I saw him in Paris a couple years ago - so pleased that he and Julie managed to have that sabbatical year in Europe. My thoughts are with Julie and the children.

To Julie and family.
I am so sorry hear about Phil's passing. Such devastating news. I have so many wonderful memories playing with Phil; such a beautiful man. He always had a little sly grin, but constantly gave his support, both in his playing and his words, all in his understated way.
Rest in peace.

My condolences to the family and Julie. I remember Phil's playing from the Tauranga Jazz Festival, from the London Bar and from a series of concerts at the Art Gallery in Auckland.
I was lucky enough to be taught piano by Phil. Whereas I had some basic knowledge he taught me such things as the intricacies of chords with 9ths.
He was proud to have studied at the Berklee College of Music.
A really nice man who will be missed by all'

We are very sad to see that Phil has died, and so young. We have happy memories of the Broadhurst family from the primary school days of Cameron, Nick and Tim, and have enjoyed frequently meeting Phil and Julie at our common favourite cafe Voila in recent months. We send our love and sympathy to you all. Helen and Malcolm Peterson
