A very belated offer of sincere condolences to Peter's family following his untimely death last June. I was his next door neighbour in Browns Bay back in the Eighties and we kept in touch through annual Christmas cards: as nothing arrived this year I googled his name and discovered he had passed away.
Peter was always courteous, friendly and often funny, I was in awe of his huge intellect and mastery of the chess board. A kind soul who has surely gone to his reward.
May God bless and keep you, Peter. Rest in peace.

I am so sorry to hear the news of Peter passing. He and my parents knew each other for many decades, and I met him only in the last few years through St George's. He was always very gentlemanly, dignified, kind, sharp as a tack, and always interesting to talk with. A godly man who set a great example to others including myself. I feel lucky to have made his acquaintance and confident that he leaves an impressive legacy from a lifetime of service to his profession and community. Condolences to his friends and family.

I first met Peter when we were both working as seagulls (ie casual workers) on the Auckland wharves over the university holidays. We met again in Law School where I was a couple of years behind Peter.
He was top of his year in company finance (later known as advanced company law) , which would have been highly competitive. He was then part of a university team that beat teams from a number of other countries in a moot competition. I think it was in Sydney. They won by citing as precedent an actual court case also in a Sydney court, for which the decision had been issued that very morning. (This was 20 years before the internet.) If anyone but Peter Weir had told me that story, I wouldn´t have believed them. He was quite capable of analysing and applying a complicated case that fast with his computer-like mind.
Later we worked together in the commercial team at Russell McVeagh where he handled a huge workload.
During his time at the Companies Office they probably didn´t need Google because it would have been quicker to ask Peter.
A very warm and genuine guy who will be missed by all who knew him.

I always felt honoured that he would invite me to dinner at his home. Such a wonderful cook and host. Lived a simple quite life. Besides from long legal opinions where it was hard to get a word in, we would talk about God, old friends, your holiday trips, and how to improve my CV. Sorry I didnt stay in touch when you left work. You are now in Heaven...no longer alone. Wil expect to see you at my welcome home party with Jesus, on that special day when we meet again.

It is with much sadness that I learned of Peter's death. A true gentleman, for whom dignity and kindness came naturally and who was blessed with a great intellect. We travelled together in Asia in the summer of 1973/74 after our final university exams and I could not have had a better or more agreeable travelling companion.
You have been taken too soon old friend - may you rest in peace.

Deeply saddened to hear of your passing. You were on the interview panel when I had to reapply for the job leaving the Manukau Office to make the move to Grafton Road in the City (many many haircuts ago) I always remember you having a giggle at some silly response I gave to the interview panel. You always had a beautiful warm laugh. We all learned so much from you, and you always had time for us. You had an eagle eye for detail, always ready to go out of your way for your colleagues.
Rest in Love - Ia manuia lau malaga, Peter.

Peter, you will be dearly missed. I'll always remember your time with us at the Companies Office, your delicious baking, and all the guidance you generously imparted. Thank you for always being so generous with your knowledge and time. I still refer to your legal opinions and guidance to this day. I will miss your morning tea invites that turned into a whole day of conversation and catching up. Rest in peace and love Peter.

Peter, you will be profoundly missed, you were such a kind, helpful and knowledgeable person. I will always have fond memories of our many discussions on a variety of topics including, law, tennis, chess, travel abroad or trips to Rotorua, and gardening - in particular, on growing quinces and how to make jam from them. Thank you for helping me in my early days at the ministry, you were always more than happy to take time out of your busy day to talk over a difficulty legal issue or read through a draft letter. Rest in peace.

WEIR, Peter Bryan. Passed away peacefully on 12th June, 2024. Deeply loved and treasured cousin of Justine, Antony, David and Timothy Mahon and their families. “Few hearts like his with virtue warmed, few heads with knowledge so informed.”
