Peter SPEEDY Obituary

SPEEDY, Peter John (Pete, Dad) RNZA Service No. B46392. 7 October 1954, left us broken hearted on Valentines Day, 60 years young. No words can express the loss we are experiencing. Long before due, we have lost a stellar Husband to Sue for 40 years, an Awesome Father to Belinda, Matt, and Ben and a great mate to son-in-law Cameron. Nothing will fill the void left by Pete's absence, we can only try with our countless, loving memories. As we try to come to terms with all the shared plans and dreams that won't come to fruition, and struggling to comprehend the loss of the head of this family, we can only surmise that Pete was required more, in someone else's house. Requiem Mass will be celebrated at St Patrick's Cathedral, 43 Wyndham Street, Auckland City on Friday 20 February, at 1.30pm

I have been sorting old photos of St College Silverstream and of the Army, many of which feature Pete. He was my best friend since school, in the Army, and after. I still feel his loss as I know Sue and kids do. He will always be in our thoughts.

To Sue and the Speedy family, well it was tragic news to learn of Pete's passing. Only on the Tuesday of that week, Tony Sellars, Murray Tocker, Pat Nganeko and myself had a catch up and Peters name was right at the for front of our conversation's and memories of the times we all spent together as team mates St Patrick's College Silverstream 72-73 first fifteen. The fun times(high jinks) traveling to and from school by train, the endless hours of rugby training, games and countless gatherings in either the Fosters, Guppy or Coles garages will never be forgotten. Pete was a talent un matched by others but more so a especial person and friend that touched us all. Was fantastic to catch up at the College 75th Jubilee which just seems like yesterday. Have just returned from 9 days in Twizel and was a pleasure to spend a quiet moment thinking of Peter and you all as we passed through Tekapo.

Dear Sue, Belinda, Matt and Ben. We were so very sorry to hear about Pete. How devastating for you all - out hearts go out to you. We did try to catch up with you guys via FaceBook about a year or two ago but to no avail. We think of you often and hope that maybe our paths will cross again one day. Gillian and Graham Bell. Condolences also from Mike and Cara Carser x

Pete was one of my best friends at school. After forty years apart, I found and rang him a year or two ago and we chatted away as if nothing had happened. He was an inspiration to all at school for his twinkling love of life and his indomitable nature. My best to all his family in their grief. He will be sadly missed. Far too young.

Sue, Belinda, Matt & Ben - it was always a pleasure being in Pete's company. He always had a big smile on his face and told some outrageous jokes/anecdotes. He is going to leave a big hole in your lives, but I am sure you have some fantastic memories to help you through. Much love to you and all the Speedy families.

He was such a bright light in the lives of those around him and will continue to shine in our eyes. Just seeing Pete and his twinkly eyes would brighten your day. Pete your memory will live on forever as one of the few who truly shined in their lifetime.
