Pete (woodcutter) Smith just heard the news of your passing !
You will always be remember by us for the bee hive you gave us and all the trees you chopped down.

Your infectious smile, humour and good nature will not be forgotten. You were a iconic member of the Whangarei Hash House Harriers and one of the fastest men that I have had the pleasure of running with.

Peter, I will always treasure the last 6 months I spent with you and Tess, even thou it was in sad circumstances. I think that time allowed the boys to continue their life and give me an opportunity to get to know Tess in her own right. Since you have gone Andrew has shifted bees for us and has stepped into the breach of a responsible male in your family. Christian was playing golf yesterday and Tess and I are going for a walk today. Yes life goes on but we would all rather you were still in it in the physical sense. Like many members of the Whangarei Bee Club I had a lot of good beekeeping advice from Peter over the past ten or so years. I never really understood why he took hobby beekeepers under his wing (me!) when he had a fulltime commercial beekeeping operation of his own to maintain. I think he was basically a generous person, particularly with his time.

Because of his quiet ways and a reluctance to make judgements about others I think Peter was probably in a good place to offer good advice about a good many other things besides the bees.
