I am writing this several years after the sad loss of Peter. We lived in the same neighbourhood as kids: and went to the same school.Pete was a tough cookie in those days, but I soon realised he had a big heart, dry humour and more than a gift of kindness. I've lived in Europe for decades, but I still remember Peter, David, Lance and all the scrapes we had as spirited youngsters over 50 years ago. God bless Peter and all his friends and family.

Very sorry to hear(eventually) of the passing of Peter. I live in Victoria now, and as my five children are all Victorian-born and my mother died a few years ago, I have not been in Auckland since 2015.My friend Gavin Harris, who was in the same class as me and David and Peter at Owairaka Primary School, and still lives in Owairaka, told me he had seen a tow truck with a bronze star commemorating Peter, pulled up at a traffic light yesterday as I write.
Peter and his brother David used to be in a small gang of boys who my brother Colin and I were always scrapping with when we grew up in Owairaka. There was always a touch of kindness about Peter, even though he was quite a tough nut. He was tough, but not vicious in any way, unlike some of the gang kids who were around the area at the time.
My brother and I used to give as good as we got with the Murfitt boys, and maybe 35 years ago we had a beer with David and Peter, In New Lynn from memory, and had a good laugh about all the childhood battles we'd had.
On behalf of Keith and Colin Livingstone, and Gavin Harris, our condolences go to David and the rest of the family.

When we were kids my sister and I used to visit my Aunty Daphne who lived next to the Murfitts. Peter and David were slightly older than us but we spent many hours playing. I remember when he tried to persuade us there was a war coming ( it was the tattoo at Western Springs) but being impressionable 6 and 7 year olds we believed him!
I married a trafffic cop who knew Peter through work. Small world......
Our thoughts go to you all. A lovely guy.....
