As a sometime fellow columnist on matters economic/financial I made a point of searching out and reading Peters insightful columns. His pupils were lucky to be taught by a man with such a sound grasp of economics overlaid with his interest in current affairs, shares and human behaviour around money. My condolences to those close to him and for whom his loss will be felt daily.

So sorry that we have lost our dear friend Pete. We first met in the early 1980's when we both worked for the government and we went to university together. We had nearly forty years of great conversations setting the world right. I'll miss Pete and those conversations deeply. I'm so sorry that I can't celebrate Pete's life at the funeral but will always remember him and the friendship we shared. Love to all of Pete's family.

I'll miss my friend of over 40 years. Peter and I went to MAGS together, Mt Albert boys we were and still are.
A wise head, a honest fellow and a great friend. His wit and insight will be missed as will his newspaper columns. A common sense approach to life, liberty and opinion. A loss to the teaching fraternity. One of life's great guys and we're all better off for having known him. Forever remembered. Rest easy good friend.

Met Peter on the Camino and then back in Auckland. To have undertook such a journey (and other adventures) with his vision challenges, was inspirational. He lived the life he wrote about. A good honest caring kiwi bloke and a thinking man to top it off. Condolences to family and friends.

His were the opinion pieces I most looked forward to reading in the Herald. Common sense with a touch of humour.I will miss them, and also regret that my Grandson, who is a year 9 pupil at St. Peter's, will never have the good fortune to have him as a teacher. Rest in Peace, Peter Lyons. from Marcella Sonntag, Hamilton.
