Peter LUXFORD Obituary

LUXFORD, Peter Michael. Born: 14 October 1946, Whanganui Died: 26 September 2024, Wellington Peter died on Thursday 26 September at Wellington Hospital. He had been in ill health for some time. Peter was born in Whanganui on 14 October 1946 to Jack and Aithnah Luxford. His siblings, the late Jill, Pam (Australia), and John (Whangarei), were all born before the war. Peter was much beloved. He went to St Augustine's College then studied law at Victoria University. He joined the firm of A J Park & Son in 1969 and practised as a Trademark Partner for 40 years. He was a well-known and highly respected member of the profession. Peter's wife Monica, his daughters Miranda Richardson and Rosalind Luxford, their husbands Matt Richardson and Jason Jones and his grandchildren Elizabeth (Lizzy) and Louisa (Lulu) Richardson, and Felix Jones love him very much. The tributes received from his friends and colleagues all endorse the qualities of his character which enriched their lives. Peter was quiet, intelligent, warm-hearted. He had no self- conceit. He listened and offered practical help. His wit and incisive comments occasionally enlivened discussion. Although he travelled overseas widely and enjoyed those experiences, Peter preferred family life, holidays at the beach, fishing with John, cycling with Monica, helping his daughters with practical repairs, playing bridge with his colleagues and friends (with Ros as his partner), collecting DVDs, reading science fiction, and watching films. Peter had debilitating illnesses throughout his life but never complained. A series of heart operations were stoically endured. Peter Michael Luxford was a very gentle man. A private cremation is being held. It will be followed at a later date by a Memorial Service. Friends and family will be advised. Peter's family are so grateful for the support and sympathy they have received which have enhanced their own memories.

Peter was such a special and well-loved cousin to me. I was always excited to meet his bus when he came to Hastings for the school holidays. I have so many fond memories and am so glad I took the time to visit him twice recently and talk about our memories of childhood.
My sincere sympathy to Monica, Miranda, Rosalind and their families. I know such a loved husband, father and grandfather will be deeply missed.
Rest easy my friend, Heather

I also would like to emphasise the strength of family values Peter and Monica displayed. They have always been welcoming and gracious hosts, taking a genuine interest in the wellbeing of others. The high level of capability and compassion see in Rosalind and Miranda is testament to the strong foundation they created within the home.

He made a mean flat white too!
I remember at my home in Clevedon he sorted some of the many shed tools, eg 14 hammers, and assembled a bedside table for me. A man with practical as well as intellectual skills. He will be sorely missed.
Thinking of you all

Having Peter in my life was such a blessing. He was so quick. He was genuine. As an influential adult in my life Peter taught me how to earn trust. How to love unconditionally. He always, quietly led by example. His welcoming nature was always a refuge for the turmoil that was happening at home. I really loved his smile and his laugh. One regret is not making more of an effort to stay connected. I will never forget Peter.
