I worked with Peter Lorimer in the Department of Labour.
More recently have discovered a direct connection with the Lorimer name from my maternal great great grandmother who was a Lorimer & who married to William McCaw of Cormilligan Scotland & in 1882 sailed to NZ with 9 of their 10 adult children coming into NZ on a glorious Sept day, but went south to Otago & settled into farming & lay preaching near ?Milton. There's a cottage Belle's Neuk named after her.

I worked at the Department of Labour with Peter in the 1980s when he was Assistant Secretary,
Employment & Training. He was a staunch supporter of initiatives to further equal employment opportunities for women. Peter would always follow through on issues, using his ability to connect key people and move things along. Like many others, over the years I have bumped into Peter on Lambton Quay and more recently in the rose gardens at the end of his regular walk. He was always up for a quick exchange of news and I shall miss him. Rest in peace Peter.

We were very sorry to hear of Peter's passing. I knew Peter from when I worked in the Treasury through the 1970's, and socially. He also visited us a couple of times in England, where I settled after marriage. Peter was very fond of my mother, Eleanor Cody, who worked in the Department of Labour when he was there. Rest in peace.

We are very saddened to learn of Peter´s death. From the time I first joined the Treasury in December 1973, Peter has been a constant presence bestowing wisdom and wise advice across so many years. His contribution was recognised by his award. He will greatly missed by his many colleagues.

I regret we can not return to Wellington for his funeral but Sally and I will be remembering him on Wednesday.

I have fond memories of Peter many years ago when we were all young and just embarking on in life. A lovely young man. Too young to die. Justine Goodyer ChCh
