When Peter was teaching at Opotiki College in the year 1965/66 he coached the all conquering 1st Fifteen . My brothers Peter and David Vanstone shared in the glory of that fine team whilst I , Jeff, had to sit it out in the 2nd Fifteen as David and I were both hookers.
Since moving to Pukekohe in 2014 we twice visited Peter and were made most welcome.
A very clever man who will be sadly missed by his family, friends and the Waiuku district.
Condolences to the family.

My sincere condolences to Nancy and family. I was part of the Waiuku Art Group for a good while and respected Peter's amazing talent in various creative activities - making the exquisite string instruments and brass cannons to writing, illustrating and self publishing books. I also became aware of his commitments to projects in Waiuku - I love the rotunda in Tamakae Reserve and he let me know he was a part of that committee who got it built. Wonderful. He will be warmly remembered for all of his achievements.

I am profoundly sad at this news and wish to extend my deepest sympathy to Aunty Nancy, Brian, Debbie and her children. Uncle Peter has always been an important part of my life although he may not have realised it. He was always wise and thoughtful with kind and generous words of encouragement. I deeply admired his ability to craft and build almost anything he turned his hand to, from caravans to boats and houses. It was always a treat to visit them at home to see his latest creations or to listen to him muse over some idea he was contemplating. I always wished I'd had him for a teacher and he was an inspiration for me to enter the classroom myself. I'd like to think I've become even half as good as he was. Hei Kon Mai Matua.
