Paul had an exceptional knowledge of broadcasting and this made him a very special figure in media education (the field in which I've worked). I greatly valued his newspaper commentaries - they had a real impact and were an important political contribution. I also enjoyed my personal contacts with Paul - the conversations were always friendly, stimulating, and informative. My deepest sympathies to all his family.

Paul, you were as good a journalist as a journalist could hope to know, let alone work with, as I was lucky enough to do. You demonstrated extraordinarily high ethical standards and your counsel on all things was counsel I could always rely upon. It was an honour to work with you Paul. Rest in peace. My deepest condolences to Caroline and family.

I had the privilege of studying our management diplomas together & being in the same syndicate as Paul meant we completed shared assignments. Some of these were done with our syndicate colleagues in Paul's TVNZ director suite! Wow! Paul, we achieved several A's including a model answer for our NZ Ballet marketing assignment. Thank you so much for your grace, wisdom, & ethics. I am especially grateful to you for believing in me. I owe my success that year to you. Rest in peace dear friend, knowing you achieved a job well done. Ali

I was lucky enough to work with Paul in the early 90's whilst in production at TVNZ - He always made us feel part of his news team and they were exciting times. Hindsight has shown us that his leadership was visionary and that his ideas and drive helped to change the way kiwi viewere see news on TV for the better. His contribution to the future of broadcasting through his leadership in Christchurch has also benefitted so many. I, like so many others in the TV business, always looked forward to his commentaries on the state of the industry and his ideas and vision for the future. He will very much be missed.

Paul made a significant difference to TV journalism in NZ on his return from England, both during a golden period for News in TVNZ and then as Head of School at the NZBS in Christchurch. A man of high ethical standards and true professionalism . He will be missed. My sincere condolences to Caroline and family.

I have known Paul for over 50 years since our student days. He was the kindest and gentlest of people and a caring friend. I feel a sense of deep personal loss. He faced his health with strength and courage. Peace be with you my friend. Our deepest sympathies to Caroline, James and Rebecca.
