Pat, a family man, a coach, a dear friend and a man extraordinaire was one of those teachers that among his duties at the Edron in Mexico City inspired many young people with the true values of rugby. I was fortunate enough to have been one of them. After the Edron, he opened his own school outside Mexico City and made rugby one of its core sports. This being the early 90s Mexico had no more 12 clubs in the whole country. One of my fondest memories of rugby in Mexico is an exhibition game that we organized in Tequisquiapan to promote rugby in his school and the surrounding community. Miquiztli and Wallabies, two Mexico City based teams, were in play and all present were in awe at the speed, skill and continuity of the sport when suddenly we were quickly ushered off the field to the crowd's dismay. The governor's helicopter landed on the field and when he waved to the crowd as he exited chopper he and his security detail were booed. The game resumed shortly after that with an even livelier crowd. Pat had made more of a splash that day than what he had bargained for.
Today, Mexico has more than 100 clubs and is 48 in the World Rugby rankings. It has been the many contributions from the many people like him that have helped us to be where we are now.
Thank you so much Pat. Rest in peace my dear friend the next veteran's tournament shall be in your memory.

Pat, my first Rugby Coach at age 12 at Edron! Taught me the love for the game, and showed us that no matter how tired we were, there was always someone to help us overcome our worst nightmares and push us over the Wall! Remember the wall! RIP dear Pat.

Dear Mr Drum, I'll never forget how you introduced us to the joys of rugger. Your bellow of "Sellllinaaas!" still draws a laugh at alumni get-togethers!
