Patricia SUMICH Obituary

SUMICH, Patricia Winifred (Pat). Born Boxing Day 1938 in Whangarei, died suddenly but peacefully at home in Auckland on 27th September 2021, aged 82. Daughter of Ivan (Jack) Babich and Alice (nee Srhoj), eldest sister of the late Shirley and Stella (Darwin). Devoted and loyal mother of Mark, Fr Antony and Luke, mother in law of Nicki and great friend of Jo-Ann. Sensational grandmother of Edmund, Jack, Lily, Sadie and Zita. Pat's faith underpinned all her activities and she was much loved by all she encountered. No cryptic crossword was beyond her, librarians Auckland-wide knew her on a first name basis and she reluctantly relinquishes her role as the Spelling Sheriff, while all grammatical rookies and predictive texters can finally relax. Pat's Requiem Mass will be overseen by her son Antony on Wednesday 6th October at 9.30am. If Auckland is in Level 2, it will be held at St John the Baptist Catholic Church, 212 Parnell Road (50 people max, by invite only), while if Level 3 remains, it will be a Private Service at the Chapel of St Anne's in Te Atatu South. Regardless, livestream will be available on www.livemass.net - all enquiries to Mark Sumich at 7 Belmont Terrace, Remuera, or on (027) 4909814 or [email protected]

We are saddened to hear about the passing of a wonderful, loving , faithful friend. Pat was like a second mother to me. During a very difficult time of my life she gave unwavering emotional support mixed with a very practical realistic approach to advice. I have missed her so much since we left NZ and I will say a special prayer for Pat
. Much love, from Kim, Rory, Jeanie and Wen Myles and Kim's husband Theron Mattick-- your American family.

Oh how we will miss you Pat. Your beautiful smile ,forthrightness and willingness to lend a helping hand to those who needed it.
You so loved your family, faith, friendships, and the years of work for Canterbury and Line 7.
We met supporting our sons at Ellerslie cricket, winter months supporting yours at Marist rugby.
I will miss our many visits, lately long phone conversations about your family. Your pride of them was so evident.
Tomorrow I am going to wear a pair of earrings you gave me for my 50th ,in memory of you.
I hope you have a pen and endless supply of crosswords to take with you.
RIP Pat.
Our loving condolences to Mark, Fr. Antony, Luke and families.

Pat Sumich
Much loved cousin of the late Violet and Sandy (bridesmaid to them 70 years ago) and Tony, Andrew, Michael, Sabrina and Maria. A very fervent and Catholic Srhoj who loved life and adored her children and grandchildren to the max. Boxing Day Races will never be the same again but we will toast you that day. Pocivala u Miru
