Owen WHALEY Obituary

WHALEY, Owen George. 30 November 1928 - 12 September 2019 Peacefully at Hokianga Hospital, Rawene. Best friend and husband of Alexa, loving father and father-in-law of Michael and Catherine, Jenny and Jeremy and Ian and Jessica. Papa of Thomas, Annie, Lily, Zoe, Ben, and Matai. Owen will be lying in the Omapere Church Centre from midday on Tuesday 17th September, 2019 until his service at 2:00pm, followed by a private cremation. Owen is someone who was a good friend and teaching colleague to my brother Bill Wilson. They taught together at Model Country School in Epsom. My brother Ken also taught with him. I did a teaching practice section with another teacher there I clearly remember Owen as a gentle, caring person and an amazing much loved teacher there. He was highly respected and admired by fellow teachers, colleagues, parents and Auckland Training College staff. Owen is related to our family for one of my grandmother's was a Whaley - her maiden name. All the best to the family at this sad time.

Goodbye my dear cousin. I always enjoyed your visits to the farm when I was very young, and you and Alan had fun together. To me you always seemed happy with a dimple in your cheek.
