Ola LA HOOD Obituary

LA HOOD, Ola Marion. In Loving Memory of Ola Marion La Hood. Ola Marion La Hood was a beloved sister, mother-in-law, grandmother, and great- grandmother, whose warmth and kindness touched all who knew her. She shared an unbreakable bond with her sister, Jill, who lovingly cared for her in her final years. Ola will be deeply missed by Jill's family - Abraham, Cody, Patrick, Kalani, and Talulah. A devoted grandmother, Ola took immense joy in the lives of Gerard, Sammi, and Tom, playing an integral role in their upbringing. Her laughter and unwavering support made her relationship with her grandchildren's mother Leah one of harmony and joy, never marked by disagreement. She was especially delighted to welcome her great- grandchildren - Teequan, Jordan, Eira-Lae, Te Ao Kohu, and Ella - into the world, cherishing every moment with them. Ola's legacy of love, laughter, and kindness will forever remain in the hearts of her family and friends. "The silver moon And the evening tide Oh some sweet day Gonna take away This hurting inside Well I'll never be blue My dreams come true On Blue Bayou"

It has been two weeks since Ola has passed and each day I find myself thinking what an exceptional woman we have lost. It seems sadly appropriate that our our clan [McIvor] motto is Nunquam Obliviscar, meaning ‘I will never forget.’ Throughout life’s challenges - and yes there were many of significance - Ola never forgot her southern roots and ties to the small Southland fishing village of Riverton. It was here she was also schooled in her deeply Scottish heritage. Our great grandfathers spoke the Gaelic, knitted their own socks and marked festive occasions with bagpipes, haggis and whisky - cultural icons passed down to our generation. She lived for some time on the family farm at tiaitai Bush. There were sad days aplenty as several - including Ola’s father Jack - of my uncles died of tuberculosis. But during this time Ola also cemented lifelong relationships with my mother Jeane and my aunty, Ivy. When time and circumstance seemed poised to disrupt her links with these remarkable women Ola responded with passion and determination to keep their connections alive. When I came along, my childhood was peppered with photos and kindnesses through which I learnt her stories. Every year we received photos through which we could trace Ola’s life as a young bride, a devoted mother to Brett, Aimee and Grant and a partner to Tom. From my perspective Ola was simply always there, part of the fabric of myself, part of my own story regardless of the miles and time between us. And because Ola never forgot, I can never forget. Chan fhaic sinn gu bràth neach eile colgach rithe - we will never see another like her.

I will be forever grateful to Ola, and Jill too, for sharing their photos and family history of the Cody family. Ola was so gracious and kind and caring. She understood the need for the family photos for me, my children and grandchildren. Her generosity to me was incalculable. Rest in peace Ola. My sincere condolences to Ola's family and Jill, Abraham and family.

Our deepest sympathy from the McClatchy family, including Martin McClatchy. Martin´s son, Michael McClatchy, who passed away in 2007, cherished Ola deeply. Ola was incredibly special to our family, and she was Michael´s godmother. I´ve read the heartfelt cards Ola sent to Michael for his birthdays, and I remember her unwavering support when he was ill. We will always remember what a beautiful soul Ola was. Ola´s dear friend Erin McKay also sends her deepest sympathy, always preserving the bond between our families. May you rest in peace. With much love, Carol McClatchy and family (Michael´s wife). Dear Lord, please bless Ola and the family she leaves behind
