Nikos shared his enthusiasm and passion for all things Hellenic with so many of us, for which we will be eternally grateful. As a Classics teacher, it was so wonderful to have him at the Classics quizzes and talks, and students adored him. Almost 40 years ago, I lived in the same area of Piraeus that he grew up in, teaching English, and he often reminded me of this. A hub of the Greek community, and a taonga in every way. His passion for life was truly inspiring. Many condolences to you Helen and family. . Nga mihi aroha Kay Brown

When Niko sailed from Greece he took, in his heart, a large slice of it with him.
Over the decades of his life in New Zealand he was very generous in sharing that slice of Greece with so many. I was one of the fortunate ones who received a taste. I shall always be grateful to him. Rest In Pease my old friend. Be assured that the ancient gods are smiling down on you.

Hi Helen
The Booth and Mastro-George families acknowledge the loss of such a special man. He was a treasured baba, theo, papou and friend to many in your family networks, and to us he was an extraordinary link to our Greek heritage. We have known him for over 60 years through the Greek community in Auckland. He worked closely with my mum, Titsa Booth (nee Mastro-George), my aunt, Irene George and another aunt, Lexie Burke (nee Booth). He is always spoken of very highly, carrying the flag for our homeland with pride, passion, grace and immense integrity. We honour him and his legacy and send you our deepest sympathy and warmest hopes that you are surrounded by people who can walk with you during this difficult time. He will never be forgotten by all those whose have benefitted from his contributions to community, written accounts of the Greek experience and history, plus his friendship and leadership.
