I am late to hear this news. Very late. I was at Wadestown primary with Nigel. He invited me to his birthday party, where I was the only girl. After standard 4 we lost contact but I am of the age where I am looking to reconnect even briefly with my past contemporaries. My condolences to Nigel's sons. He was a good and kind boy, and I understand that he was a wonderful man. Vale.

The trustees of the New Zealand Conservation Trust would like to pass on their condolences to Nigel's family. Nigel's leadership and guidance as a trustee and then Chair of trustees was very much appreciated.

I am still in shock at the terrible loss of a true legend. We worked closely together at BP in Melbourne and London and these times were some of the best and funniest times of my working life. A loyal trusted colleague with an outstanding intellect and brilliant sense of humour. It was an honour and privilege to also call him my friend. With other colleagues we raced horses together ( we specialised in slow ones!) including the aptly named Delta Hedge. Great fun , great memories and great friendships. Forever missed mate ! Cheers

I had the pleasure to work with Nigel in BNPP in NY. I remember a very nice and funny colleague with whom it was a pleasure to interact. I am deeply sorry for your loss. Please accept my sincere condolences.

So sad to lose to lose you Nige... it´s still sinking in. There is so so much we will miss about you. Your larger than life personality. Your genuine love and kindness and of course your incredibly quirkiness and fun. You were definitely one out of the box whom will forever remembered with so much love and fondness. All our love Annie Stan Oscar Milo and Mimi

Such sad news. Nigel was in my first flat at Otago Uni - a house that is now the site of the Commerce Faculty where Nigel returned to speak at in later years. We all loved Nigel - such a positive energy, a fun loving guy, super bright, we had some great laughs. He has left a huge hole but awesome legacy esp with his work saving the mohua bird . Sending Love and hugs to Nigel´s boys and wider family

Nigel was larger than life, affable, a huge rugby fan and a respected head of Foreign Exchange trading for BNP Paribas in NYC. I remember with fondness the years 2000 to 2004 spent supporting trading floor FX IT in NYC and having the pleasure of working with him. Condolences to all his family.

Nigel was THE Boss. Larger than life. My first boss twenty years ago, and he still has left a big mark. His energy and his sense of humour were one of a kind. He would know how to keep people on their toes, but always with a good heart. I was impressed, almost feared him when I first joined the desk. After a year or two in your team Nigel, you gave me the best of all advice: "Fear no man". It helped immensely. I will keep your words and all the memories preciously. Rest In Peace Nigel, you will be missed. My condolences to Charles, to Edward and to the whole family.

Met Nige when he played for the "Bonecrushers" Touch Rugby Team in 1986. We worked together in the FX market here in New Zealand and in Melbourne with BP. In the early 2000s I'd always catch up with him and Pip when I traveled to New York.
Nige was a phenomenal trader but better than that he was a good bloke. Terrific fun and well loved by all. Even 20 years after we worked together he'd send me a message on my birthday.
Larger than life figure who improved the lives of those he interacted with.

Wow this is very sad news indeed. Nigel was a legend in the FX industry and will be remembered for his great sense of humor, his trading acumen like no other and his good ole kiwi swagger. God bless you Nige!

Nigel was our boss @BNP CANADA in Montreal over 20 years ago. A man who spoke his mind and you knew exactly where you stood with him. Gave me (Tina) the best advice. Too young to have left this world. May he RIP. Condolences to his family. May memories of him comfort you through this difficult time! Tina and Sylvain Houde

Nigel meant so much to so many. His passion for the protection of native birds resulted in huge investments on behalf of mohua, kiwi and the South Island kokako. High flying yet so modest, no ego and hard work, love for family, friends and conservation - encouraging, supportive, motivating, entertaining, you'll be missed by so many, thank you for you xx

Nigel was a Dear friend to myself and Joe Hatton for many, many years. From jumping in the car at a moments notice to run off to Atlantic city to gamble or inviting us over to his house for a cocktail party where him and Pip would invite us to dress up as our favorite Philadelphia baseball player, or dress up as whoever we wanted to in costume, it was always the best time. You felt so welcome in their presence. They were two of the most kind and generous people that we were blessed to have in our lives for a time.
May they meet in heaven and know they will be greatly missed.
