Dear Alley Family,
I am devastated to hear the tragic and deeply sad news about Nicholas. My heart goes out to all of you during this incredibly difficult time.
Nick was a wonderful friend who I was extremely fond of. The news of his passing has affected me deeply. He was intelligent, funny, creative, and caring. His kindness, warmth and sense of humour made him a great person to be around. He had a wonderful smile and the ability to connect with people from different backgrounds. He had a large circle of friends who cared deeply for him and he was very well liked.
I have so many fond memories of Nicholas as a teenager. He was my best friend in our early years at Auckland Grammar. We spent countless Friday nights at College Rifles squash club, played tennis every lunchtime at school and had regular table tennis competitions at Koraha St. I remember fun times at Blue Light Rages, where on the same night we met our first girlfriends. Those moments shaped our friendship in a way I will always treasure and remember.
In more recent years, I loved seeing Nick and catching up at Edwin´s house. He was always friendly, great company and our conversations were thoughtful and engaging. My mum and dad were very fond of Nick and remember him well. They too are deeply saddened by this tragic and heartbreaking news.
Please know that we are holding you all in our thoughts and sending you our deepest sympathies.
With heartfelt condolences,
John Putt

Nik , I was an apprentice at Aotearoa centre,(chef) worked a lot . Nik had an amazing flat always welcome! He had a party planned and I had the day off. Perfect. Except the Waikato polytechnic said I was at needed too be there for some award. Borrowed dad´s car raced down there got it done, only thing in mind was making Niks party. Best time as usual. Caught up as always but when I told him I´d finished my time he said are you going to come pick up your trophy. I´m like what? He´ d held onto my trophy the whole time, I´d totally forgotten about it. He was one of the good ones . Thanks Nik!

Nick so many fond memories growing up as boys having fun having a laugh. Countless hours up Mt St John, mischief at the Crowell cricket club, helping ourselves to bottles of sports drink from the neighbours truck at night. Fond memories of the fun stuff. Classic smile, classic voice and a real sense of style . Hope you have found peace brother. Love and Respect.
