Today I've been listening to a recording of my uncle Matt Patuaka made at Tala Studios in Levin. Neil played guitar for the Rebelaires on the record with Roger Halliwell and John Hill backup singers. I remember Neil as a visiting music teacher at Levin North School back in the late 50's early 60's. I'm sorry to learn today of his passing. Rest assured in our family his music will live on.

Barbie and family,

I was so sorry to read that Neil had passed away. He was a wonderful man and taught me to have a passion for music, the arts and life. This passion has remained with me throughout life. A great teacher. I remember fondly those weekends 50 or so years ago coming to Chelmsford Ave to have lessons - to bathe in Neil's knowledge, Barbie's wonderful singing and your rambling garden. Indeed, a great man and a special family - certainly one of the most influential people I have ever known.

With much love

I'm so sorry for your loss Barbie, and to your family. Neil was my music teacher and guitar teacher at Glenfield College back in 1985-1986 when I was in Form 3 and 4. I have fond memories of him teaching our guitar group to play "Romance" and playing it in a school performing arts show - whenever I hear it play it reminds me of back then. He was a very talented musician indeed! Kia kaha

COLQUHOUN, Neil. Dear lifelong friend of Rudy and Pat Sunde (Glen Eden). Neil was an early folklorist and the work that he did inspired many young singers and musicians and will continue to do so for many years to come.
